JQ Ban Loong Boutique Hotel

This is a cozy hotel with a great location. Close to the old town and popular local coffeeshops. Very competitive pricing too. There were some hiccups upon our arrival so do take note if you book the hotel. Firstly, prepare enough cash to pay for your room!! When we booked the hotel, we understood from our booking website credit payment was available. However, when we reached the the hotel, we were told there was a change in management and they no longer accept credit card payment. Secondly, bring your own toiletries as they only provide hand wash in the ensuite toilet. In our case, the hand wash was not filled so we had to request for a refill. We also saw 2 mosquitoes when we entered our room, we killed one. The surviving one flew around but did not bite us so I guess it's a male? Otherwise the rest of the stay was smooth and pretty comfortable.

Stayed from 22-24 April. Booked 3 different rooms thru Agoda website. As we were travelling by train, we chosen this hotel as its location is about 10 mins walk (700m) from KTM train station and very closed to the famous Concubine Lane. Rooms are exactly shown in Agoda photos. Room 103 - Family room - spacious, bunk bed, attached bathroom, clean, window view on back alley, BUT never ever open the window or an army of mosquito will attack your room! Room 105 - Deluxe double - tiny, queen size bed, attached bathroom, clean, NO window. Room 110 - Premium double room city view - spacious, queen size bed, attached bathroom, clean, big window view on front main road. Sadly NO minibar/fridge provided in the rooms. Credit to the staff, the only Chinese lady we saw working on our stay. She is the reception, she is the housekeeping, and she is A to Z. We can't praise her enough, she did a brilliant job. Overall we are satisfied with our stay at Ban Loong Hotel!

Considering its location and price point we found this hotel to be an excellent option. Easily within walking distance of the Art and Heritage trails and there are plenty of local food outlets right outside the door. With very clean air conditioned rooms, private bathroom (there is the option of shared facilities) with ample hot water, private parking (included in the price) and a lovely little central nook for relaxing, we were very pleased with stay. A couple of considerations for those maybe expecting some of the 4 star luxuries, there is no fridges or phones in the rooms, no lift (its only one floor if you’re upstairs) and the TV has only local channels. But considering the price and location please don’t discount this hotel as a an option. Having parking, and the ability to walk to all the central attractions, as well as perfectly adequate facilities, this hotel well worth considering. In closing, we would most definitely stay here again!

We stayed here for only one night after coming down from Penang. It’s a small boutique hotel with basic amenities but very close to all tourist attractions. We checked in quite late at about 7pm, so the road to Jalan Bandar Timah was quite empty. The next morning, we were surprised because the road leading to everywhere was so jammed and all shops (coffee shops & restaurants) were so packed with people, long queues everywhere! Even though this is a small hotel, but it is very clean. Remember to bring your own toiletries as only shampoo and shower gel were provided in the room. Other than that, everything was good. Highly recommended for those love to walk around and learn about history of Perak.

There were clumps of dust and a very visible layer of dust under the double decker bed (was wondering what the white container under the bed was for, so peeked under the bed). Sand/concrete bits on the corner. Lumps of blue tack on the window. Funny smelling pillow, comforter and towel. Dusty table top and double decker frame. Smudges on mirror. No table/chair/top to place luggage. Can hear sand grits rubbing onto my luggage bag when placed on floor. Ring of horror in the toilet bowls, yeah the yucky ring around the water level 🤮. Sink doesn't seem to be cleaned (layer of soap sud/grime). No hand soap at the sinks (got some soap from the shower dispenser). Bits of trash in the corridor. This place WAS rated highly for being clean. NOT anymore. Won't be a next time. It's unfortunate for this beautifully done up place. Interior features are impressive. Lack of hygiene totally drove stay experience in the wrong direction.
