Thompson Zihuatanejo, A Beach Resort by Hyatt

I’ve always loved zihuatenajo but staying here took it to the next level. I had the privilege of staying in a swim up suite for a reasonable price. You step out of the room to a patio then straight into the warm pool. Then, if you choose, you can walk straight onto the beach where you will be provided with a cushy lounge chair. Zihutenajo is by far my favorite ocean to swim in. The water is warm and it has a long shallow shelf and gentle waves. The service has been exemplary. All the staff introduced themselves to us and remembered our names. I got a deep tissue massage from a fabulous therapist (and I’m picky). All in all, planning my next trip. This place is a hidden gem. We wanted a warm weather, warm water, luxury beach vacay but didn't want to spend Caribbean vacation money. We found it at The Thompson Zihua. The location is crazy perfect, borderline breathtaking. At the poolside restaurant, the breakfast food was the star for sure (but lunch was also very good). The service around the pool and beach, and in the restaurant and the small bar can not be beat. The staff is sooooo friendly! Stephanie, Hiliberto, Francisco, Marco-- I could go on and on. Professional, friendly and super helpful with even little things. The beach is so clean and not crowded. The vendors who walk by selling things are not aggressive at all which was nice! Our room was the bomb, but we DID splurge and book a large penthouse because I had a bonus check from my job and we were 2 adults and 2 teenagers. It was a suite with a massive main room with a bathroom, separated from another room with a bathroom, with really large patio with an infinity pool in between the areas. I'd venture to guess that this whole suite was 1200+ square ft in total, plus it had amazing views. Seriously, it would have been 2 or 3 times the price if it were a Four Seasons. Loved it!! The one curiosity I found was the amount of wild life around. All sorts of bird species making all sorts of sounds, iguanas in tree tops, and oddly there were maybe a dozen bats that flew in and slept in the rafters of our patio at night but then were gone by the time we would wake up. The maids cleaned up the bat droppings everyday so it wasn't a big deal at all. The town of Zihuatanejo is also mellow and quiet so if you want raging clubs and bars this is not the place. Off the resort, merchants and taxi drivers want cash-- pesos! No one wants your credit cards for the most part. It's a chill place. Guaranteed that we will return to Zihua and we will stay at The Thompson. It truly was a top notch luxury beach getaway.

Asked three times prior to arrival for a room near the Hao restaurant asked on arrival and for three days after and were told to not ask again that reception "knew what we wanted". We were put in the room the longest distance from the Hao in a walk up room for two 79 year olds, not nice for guests having stayed there over 41 years having requested the room from a prior stay and paying for another room for quests. VERY DISAPPOINTING. On checkout were told to call next time for requests, etc.

The Thompson is hard to beat. Easy check in process, beautiful rooms, a great walking beach with many dining options close to the hotel. They have a new Chef named Omar he is on top of his game. Outstanding staff ready to meet your every need.

Spent a day there during the slow season. Food was mediocre at best and the drinks were pricey. Perhaps this should be expected at a premium hotel.

The Thompson was a great trip for my wife and I. We went for her birthday and our anniversary. The hotel design is extremely modern. All of the facilities were clean and well maintained. The food at Hao was delicious and the customer service was great. Hilberto was amazing. The moment my wife and I met him we could sense the professionalism and care he takes within his position. He educated us on the area, amenities and entertainment and took care of us our entire trip. I couldn't ask for better assistance from him. Stephanie the manager at Hao was also very sweet and went the extra mile to make our stay special. I am very happy with my overall experience.

Refined yet unpretentious mid-size resort in a beautiful setting right on the beach. Never feels crowded. Excellent service on the beach and everywhere else. Fantastic breakfasts. So many couples visit year after year and it's easy to see why. Returning guests are greeted by name and hugged by long-time staff. Beach Suite 10 is INCREDIBLE!
