The Sherton Hotel in Kagoshima was an absolute gem of a hotel! This is our first visit to Japan, and we are admittedly nervous about the language barrier and cultural change from the US. From the moment we checked in, the staff has bent over backwards to make sure we are comfortable and have done a fantastic job to make this stay completely comfortable and enjoyable. The location is perfect right at the center of downtown Kagoshima, and the rooms, restaurants, and common spaces have more in common with a Four Seasons than with what is standard Sheraton in the US. We were not able to take advantage of the spa, but the Onsen (Hot Springs Sauna) was so relaxing and rejuvenating — especially after 26 hours of flights to get here! HIGHLY recommended. Thank you to the staff that has helped make our 4 days in Kagoshima a memorable experience! Now off to Hiroshima!

The Shiroyama Hotel in Kagoshima is an old five-star hotel founded in 1963. The current Emperor and Empress of Japan have stayed here. It may not be an exaggeration to say that this hotel is the best hotel in Kagoshima. The address of this hotel is located on the top of Shiroyama, the site of the Southwest War. A 5-minute walk from the hotel entrance is the Shiroyama Observation Deck where you can overlook Sakurajima. The hotel has a free shuttle bus to Kagoshima JR Station, which runs every half hour. All hotel staff are friendly and well-trained. The facilities inside the hotel are very complete and there are many restaurants, including Japanese restaurants and Western restaurants. I personally recommend the semi-buffet lunch at The Lounge Casablanca on the 4th floor. There are a variety of appetizers and soups to choose from. For the final dessert, the waiter will push a cart to you and ask you what you want. The hotel has its own bakery and dessert shop, and its desserts also have a counter in Kagoshima JR Station. The hotel's large bathhouse has an open-air hot spring. Sitting in the hot spring, you can overlook Sakurajima in the distance. The most important thing is that this hotel is not expensive! If I go to Kagoshima next time, I will definitely stay at this hotel.

I am currently staying here on my way to Yaku Island. After being here for awhile, I am already used to the quality of Japanese service and this place measures up to those standards. Though a bit long in the tooth, my small single room was clean, with wifi, frig, telebi, and quiet. The onsen was small but old style which I like and the water was hot enough and the facility clean. Towels were provided also. It was on the top level which was nice. The front desk folks were efficient and spoke adequate English to a non-Japanese speaking Japanese American. I asked for a non-smoking room when I booked and it was provided. It overlooks a beautiful Shinto shrine and a nice park is across the street. It is close to the Tenmonkan area with lots of restaurants and convenience stores. Pleasantly surprised and happy this worked out.

Since I used JAL's dynamic package, it is a little difficult to think about the cost performance only by the inn fee, but I should have stayed with meals and stayed at this price with a set of planes. If you think that the room is just sleeping, there is no problem. Convenient because it is close to the station. There is a little distance to the Astronomical Museum, but there are trams and buses, and you can walk normally. The breakfast was delicious and I remember eating too much.

Highly recommend this hotel if you stay in Kagoshima for a short time! The location being inside the JR Station is very convenient, and the hotel was clean. Had a lot of free amenities, like some epsom salt bath! The room itself is a typical small room like you see everywhere in Japan. Would definitely recommend if you visit Kagoshima!

It is almost the same as other business hotels, and the rooms and bathrooms are basically clean, but the bathrooms are especially small, and some of the facilities are outdated. You can be served breakfast in the lobby on the first floor, depending on your accommodation plan. There seems to be enough tables and chairs, but due to the large number of rooms, especially on holidays when the rooms are almost full, it may be too crowded to eat breakfast. However, there are cafes and convenience stores around the hotel that open early in the morning, so you won't have any trouble finding food. The hotel can be used as a good base for sightseeing in Kagoshima.

This is a new hotel with bunk beds which can accommodate 4 to 6 persons. The beds were spacious and a good size. We stayed in the executive bunk family room which can accommodate 6 persons. It may be a bit tight for 6 persons but just right for our family of 4. There is full size washing machine cum dryer in the room which is very useful for washing our clothes. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast with a good spread but as there is no dining area, you need to pack your breakfast into bento boxes and eat them in your room. But we saw a sign which says breakfast will be separately charged from Jan 2024 onwards. Now, breakfast is complimentary and included in the room rate. The hotel also does not have car park but there is more then sufficient coin parking right next door which cost 600 yen from 2000 to 800. The location is quite central and a short 5-10 min drive to Tenmonkan. There is also a good ramen restaurant across the road from the hotel, Rai Rai Tei which is worth trying. Just a tip, we got a much better room rate on Rakuten than the usual Agoda, *********** sites.

Close to Kagoshima Chuo Station, close to the city tram stop and close to the ion, the location was good. Our room was on the second floor. Because there was only a staircase, is the heavy luggage person a little hard? The room was clean and I was able to spend it slowly. The hotel staff was very kind. Because Wi-Fi was hard to connect, I was able to go to the front desk and borrow another Wi-Fi. It was comfortable. It was close to the ion so I was saved to buy souvenirs.

Maybe I checked in late. It was after 7pm and the room was full, so the room I was assigned was not very good. There was a musty smell in the first room I entered. After I told the front desk, I changed to a second room with a bigger musty smell. But my friend is very nice. Leave the west exit of the central station (big camera side) and go to the JR Kyushu Hotel. Just walk the second corner of the family on the road from the station rotary and go to the left hand. It is a little difficult to find, but I am surprised by the distance feeling too close to the station. The building is a relaxed atmosphere, the air conditioning is effective, and the dormitory and the water are clean. The facilities in the building are only shower booths, but if you want to take a large bath, there are 2 ～ 3 public baths nearby. It is not a distance to cool the hot water (it is not sweating in summer), so it is also a wind flow to go to the local public bath in Kagoshima. In Kagoshima City, where there are few cheap inn, it seems to be a regular inn because of the goodness of Cospa.
