Fantastic location for India's wildlife - especially the smaller animals which live in dry zones. Highlight was caracal which is always hard to see. But the high-quality sightings of wolves, sloth bear,*****ed hyena, porcupine - to name just some - were fantastic. There are 6 cat species here and I saw 4 including an unexpected tiger, carcal, jungle cat and desert cat. Other animal species include civets, mongooses, foxes, jackals etc. We saw 20 mammals and a marsh crocodile so very happy with that. The accommodation was clean, spacious and very comfortable Food was great and staff were very attentive. The fort is a beautiful location. Very enjoyable stay.

It is a smaller, more intimate heritage property and has friendly service staff. We wanted to relax and enjoy some quiet time after hectic visits to different cities - personifies this property. It goes through various villages - so one gets a view into their life although the roads are slow and narrow. While walking through the village we were invited to a wedding function and met ***y friendly local villagers.

What an incredible place! On a two-week tour of an extended Golden Triangle, Ramathra Fort was an absolute haven of peace, calm, comfort and amazing views. Top class service added to the experience. Lots of activities to choose from or just chill in this fantastic place. Unfortunately I had some travellers' sickness from a previous stop whilst I was there and the staff couldn't have done more to help. I was so well looked after, they were so kind and I can't thank them enough. We only had two nights - it wasn't enough! Would love to go back. Highly recommended.

Accommodations were very clean . The linens white and crisp. The room was very spacious and had amazing views across the valley. The grounds were beautifull, all kind of places to rest your weary feet. The best spot was the day bed perched high on the wall. Beautiful lake vistas from here .. We were pleasantly surprised by the outdoor dining area. The food was very fresh delicious. Chicken, ***l, veggie dish, raita. It was brought to our attention that some items were grown on the grounds. The gift shop had amazing silk scarfs and artwork.

Ramathra Fort will be etched in our memories for ***y years. What a gem of a spot. We spent two nights there in early January between Agra (Taj Mahal) and Ranthambore. The place is quiet but exquisite with a quiet ambiance and perfect spots to watch the sunset and see the fog over the trees below in the morning. We stayed in a room with a beautiful porch to have a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset before having a cocktail by the outdoor fire in the courtyard, chat with Udi (the owners’ son) or his mother and then a lovely dinner in a small dining room. On our full day we did a village walk with a guide, enjoyed the fiarm, greenhouse, a few hellos to local residents then we were rowed across the lake to a picnic lunch they’d set up. It felt a bit like WE were royalty as they had lunch set up on a table with a daybed set adjacent! Next we took a leisurely hike ***** the shoreline and viewed some beautiful kingfishers, blue jays of some sort, and crocodiles! Just fantastic. We had a stop at one of the nearby shrines with flocks of green parakeets on the way back to make for a beautiful relaxing day. If you can fit it in, and you are willing to slow down, this is a really wonderful place.

While touring from Jaipur to Agra, we had the enormous great fortune to visit the incredible gem of Ramathra Fort. This 1700s-era fiefdom of the Maharaja has been with the family for 11 generations, the current couple having dedicated themselves to restoring and renovating the castle-like structure for 15 years with beautiful results. The rooms are thoroughly appointed and offer impressive views of the countryside below, the farm-to-table regional cuisine is delicious, there is even an artist-in-residence, and the staff are all marvelously knowledgeable and experienced. We thoroughly enjoyed three days of exploration: A rowboat tour of the nearby Lake AAAA, amid wildlife ranging from flocks of cormorants and egrets to watching a brightly colored kingfisher capture its dinner, all under a beautiful setting sun. Hiking with their experienced guide through the the adjoining 18th century ruins, past antelopes and peacocks, and onward to vibrantly active temples. Visiting the neighboring extremely rural villages, meeting wonderful people living a life which we could never have otherwise understood or appreciated, enjoying their enthusiastic and gracious hospitality. Venturing to the town market and shops, including being invited into a mustard oil press operating at full production. Exploring on a nighttime Jeep safari through the adjacent Nature Preserve, observing wildlife including peacocks and pea hens with chicks, then hyenas including feasting on a kill, hares, antelopes, gazelles, fox and more. Above all, the hospitality of the owner-proprietors and their staff was exceptional and genuine. We had the exceptional pleasure of sharing multiple afternoons and evenings with the owners' adult sons, as well as their inviting us to join with them and their own guest. Truly, we will cherish our experiences at the Ramathra Fort for a lifetime. Please, if you have the opportunity to travel to the region of Agra and Jaipur, we emphatically recommend sharing several days with these magnificent hosts.
