Having spent nearly 2 years on and off at this hotel,I can honestly say I’m still enjoying the experience,It’s abit like being part of one big family,Staff come and go ,but the meticulous service by all departments never alters,Greeted with a smile on registration at reception,smoothly signed in ,all questions about breakfast,restaurant and checking out times answered ,local history and attraction booklets available by the main lift area.they have a bar area which doubles up as an eatery, good selection of wines beers and spirits,excellent ,friendly Staff,food is also ordered from the bar,of which the menu is varied,the food well cooked and presented,but need’s reviewing,a little staid.Rooms are airy ,cleaned regularly decent nights sleep.all in all, A pleasant hotel to relax after a day’s work or journey.

The welcome was friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. It looked like it had not been long refurbished. We've not had an English Breakfast for a very long time - the breakfast here was good, plenty of choices. Everyone we spoke to was very friendly. The parking tests your 3-point shunting skills a bit but it's good that it does have one.

Always get a warm welcome at Redwings. The staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The hotel is surrounded by bars and restaurants and on the main bus route into Birmingham city. Perfect for a short stay at reasonable prices.

First impressions were good but then it went downhill from there. I arrived in the evening and the place looked nice and I was greeted at reception warmly. When I got to my room, the bed was great - big and inviting (although squeaky) but the walls were badly decorated, scuff marks everywhere, toilet handle badly installed and not one bit of paperwork to tell me anything ie the wifi code, facilities and timings or any other useful information. The water was hot, a relief, even though the shower tray did not fit the space, and then when I went to dry my hair, no hairdryer. Given I was already in pjs, no chance of going to reception and no phone to call down directly so I had to wait over an hour for my hair to dry naturally before sleeping. Slept badly as on a main road and no double glazing so had to listen to lorries thundering past all hours of the night. I did mention at reception on checkout that it would have been nice to have had a hairdryer and I was cheerfully told that they had them at reception if I had asked - well not being psychic and having no information in the room or told that on check-in, I am not really in a position to know that am I. Overall a bad experience and I won't be staying there again. Real shame as I think it could be such a nice place with just a few touch-ups and some well needed customer information in room - not one shred of anything in any of the drawers - even the iron and ironing board that obviously once lived in the wardrobe had been removed. Very sad place - suggest you stick to a premier inn for the same money.

We booked this hotel last minute after having to make changes to our trip to the NEC. Not fancying a glamping pod, we booked a room and were allocated the honeymoon suite. The hotel was very clean throughout and you could smell the cleaning products as soon as you walked in, indicating the cleaners had been in doing a thorough job. Staff were lovely and friendly and let us check in an hour early as the room was ready when we arrived at 2pm. Free parking is provided and I could see my car from the window of our room. The location is good and site was nice and quiet, despite having an events centre next door. There isn’t much within walking distance however there’s a bar and restaurant on site to cater for your needs. There’s also free wifi however our mobile signals were absolutely fine so we had no reason to make use of it on this occasion. Jacuzzi in the room was a nice touch and big enough to fit two people in. Was delighted to find out that a complimentary breakfast was included the following morning, and not too early either, starting at 9am. Sunday check out at 11am was ideal without us having to rush. As pleasant as the hotel is, it needs a fair bit of work. It’s very dated and tired looking. It’s creaky and old and is in need of a bit of a restoration, more than just a lick of paint here and there. The walls are paper thin, as I was lying in bed I could hear the person in the next room using the toilet - I won’t get graphic but let me just say I could hear everything as though I was in the room with them. One of the windows in our room wouldn’t shut at all, which wasn’t a massive issue as the weather wasn’t too bad, but during colder months this would’ve been impossible to sleep through. The old wooden frames were warped and you couldn’t even put it on the latch as the metal lever had snapped. There was no hot water for the shower so we were forced to take a cool shower. Not the end of the world but a bit inconvenient. My wife also pointed out that there was nowhere for her to get ready and do her makeup. The room is more than big enough to fit a dressing table in and this would’ve saved her sitting on the floor in front of the mirror to do her hair and makeup. It’s also pricey compared to local competitors. Breakfast was okay but lacking a few basics - no hash brown or black pudding. It would also benefit from a variety of options such as fresh fruit and yogurt. On the whole it was a nice experience but I’d only stay here again if I couldn’t get in anywhere else OR if it was modernised and updated throughout.

The castle hotel where Elizabeth I spent his childhood is really beautiful, the environment is beautiful, and the medieval castle hotel itself is classic and beautiful, it is worth visiting. Service is good, breakfast is good, as long as it is not a weekend, the price is super high, it is definitely worth a stay |
