Castle Inn Hotel, BW Signature Collection

We only stopped one night but it seemed fine, service was pleasant and friendly facilities were good. It looked tired in some areas but something that big can't be shiny new everyday. The room was generally clean and dust free but the fridge (which wasn't even plugged in) was dirty inside and there was an empty biscuit packet under the couch.

Decent hotel, food and service is great. Room size is brilliant bit dated but it has 90's charm. Now we are visiting again in summer. Hotel itself is around 8 mile from Keswick not much around apart from Sun Inn pub which is great. It is around mile from the hotel. Worth going there for a pint and some food too.

Had Sunday roast absolutely loved it , The meat was the nicest I have had in long time . And at £14 you will not find cheaper or nicer in the lakes. The places is great for us , it’s not the busiest place around but that what we like about the castle. For fresh food go to the castle inn. Date of visit 31/3/24

Went for Easter Sunday family lunch. Worst decision of the holiday. Went in the restaurant and the staff just stood and stared at us, absolutely no welcome. Sat in a massive empty room with no music or ambience, no other guests, after about 20 minutes a waitress asked what meat do we want? We were very confused as we hadn’t even told her we wanted a carvery! We did end up ordering the carvery, which was absolutely pathetic. A little trolley with freezing cold solid Yorkshire puddings that had been sat out for a good while, some shabby bits of meat just sitting on a tray, and a few bits of dreary veg. Ate what we could and left to have dessert elsewhere. Definitely won’t return and definitely won’t recommend, especially for a special occasion! Also there was no price mentioned anywhere- the carvery was £14 each.

A decent room, a good swimming pool and freshly cooked breakfast with very pleasant service were the highlights of this visit. The dinner menu was limited but adequate. Location is good for access to the northern lakes.

Review of a two-night stay at the The Castle Inn early in March 2024, with reasonable weather for the time of year. Solo traveller, first time visitor. It's an events and conference type hotel and wasn't particularly busy on this occasion, thus, my review reflects an out of season experience when the hotel was at realtively low capacity. Although not the cheapest option I'd price for this stay, it was fairly priced for what it provided. In all honesty I wasn't in the mood to be tucked away in anything too cosy, so this was perfect - a clean and welcoming hotel that provided eveything I needed. A warm welcome from reception on arrival, with everything I needed to know explained before I had to ask. Due to the nature of the hotel there is plenty of parking available and within reasonable distance of reception. I can't comment on the leisure facilities as I never took advantage of those, although it was explained to me that I was welcome to do so, and how to access. Breakfast was fair for the cost and served in good time, with a good selection of both cooked and continental options. I had no bother getting a table for evening meals and, again, the food was fair for the money with a reasonable choice on the menu. There was also a decent selction of beers and I was offered a sample before deciding on my pint of choice. The restaurant doesn't do room transfers, however, so I was called back to pay at the bar - although that seemed unusual that wasn't a particular problem for me, but something for other visitors to note. I'd be happy to recommend and the proff of the pudding is that I would have no hesitation in returning to stay at the Castle Inn Hotel.

The hotel was lovely, the spa was clean and delightful, the food was excellent and all round it was a very pleasant stay. Unfortunately, the hotel was quiet due to the snow, but otherwise everything was fine.

I strongly recommend this hotel, not just for its location near charming Bassenthwaite and with a view of Skiddaw, but for its accommodation, amenities and staff. It has had its ups and downs over the years since my first visit in the early 1990s, and is currently undergoing a change of ownership, so may be due for even more to recommend it. The refurbished Spa offers an excellent pool, sauna and steam room, though the changing rooms are rather more primitive, and the gym very small. Rooms, especially those in the 60s, are very well furnished with spacious shower facilities and window views. Especially recommended is the cooked breakfast. I had the best poached eggs I have had for years - gently oozing yolk and far better than my own best efforts! Elizabeth provides welcoming and efficient service at breakfast, making this a fine start to a day's hike, cycle ride or collapse into the sauna.
