This review is of the restaurant only and was our first visit since the change of hotel ownership. Previously we have had drinks and dined at the hotel on many occasions. On our return we were accompanied by six friends. We were all disappointed, not so much by the food which was good, but by the service, atmosphere and very high prices. We needed to ask for snacks to accompany our pre-dinner drinks, ask for bread with our hors d’oeuvres, pour the wine and water throughout the dinner and clear our own glasses and plates. The waiters looked unhappy, did not smile and we had the impression our presence was an inconvenience. On previous occasions we have enjoyed the ambiance of pre-drinks in the reception bar and a truly memorable meal with warm and welcoming staff; this year the whole expensive experience fell way below expectation. We will not be visiting the Alpina again until they get their act together.
