This temple stay is amazing. Vegetarian breakfast and dinner was great. The morning prayer and fire ritual was great to take part in. They also offered an afternoon mediation tutorial. There was a night tour for the cemetery, however I did not take part. It was a little concerning that the English tour was ¥1000 yen more than the Japanese tour. Overall I highly recommend this place.

The temple offers a unique stay experience with many items to experience. The receptionist can speak English. The location is great. But the soundproofing of the room is very poor, you can hear the noise from next door at night.

Chi si aspetta qui tutti i servizi di un hotel, non ha capito il senso di questo posto. Se cercate un‘esperienza autentica in un tempio con dei monaci, se cercate la pace, e avete voglia di conoscere, allora siete nel posto giusto. le camere in stile giapponese sono belle e io personalmente ho dormito benissimo. Non sono granché vegetariana, ma i pasti sono stati ottimi e bellissimi anche per gli occhi. La meditazione é stata interessante e le due cerimonie al mattino molto mistiche e piene di buona energia. I monaci sono molto gentili e rispettosi. Il bagno in comune ( simil Onsen) non é un problema. Location perfetta per visitare Okunoin.

Fabulous staff/monks
Very attentive.
The meditation, morning prayers, fire cermony and meals were a highlight.

Really lovely temple accommodation with friendly monks and an excellent vegetarian dinner. Just be warned in winter the complex is mostly not heated (heaters are provided in rooms, but they’re kerosene so you have to be careful) and toilets/sinks are shared. Bathing is onsen style which I liked a lot. Views from some of the rooms are lovely.
