The room is very small but the lake is in front of the door. The location is very good! The hotel restaurant's dinner was pretty good, with plenty of choices and good quality.

The room is unsanitary. There are several hairs on the sheets, blood on the quilt, and slag on the pillows. I suspect they don't wash the sheets and quilts at all. Except for the hygiene, everything else is fine.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is a bit far from Plockton but it has a beautiful view of Skye and Loch Alsh. Our room had a nice big window where we could look out onto the Loch. The rooms are spacious and updated and the bathrooms are nice with good showers. Beds are large and comfortable and they give you choice of pillows. The service at reception is very cordial and very helpful. One evening we needed to get to a pub in Plockton and we couldn't find a Uber so the hotel helped arrange a ride for us - they really went out of their way because they called 3 different drivers and persistently found us a ride. The onsite restaurant does great food and a beautiful breakfast every morning. We wanted to give a shout out to our server Tegan she was lovely and always found us a table. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent the night at Balmacara and it was wonderful! We were tired from a lot of driving but the hotel and its amenities were fantastic! Highly recommend the restaurant as the food was on point! Portions were great too! The staff went out of their way to see to all of our needs, all with a smile on their face.

Food excellent, if rather a limited menu. Perfect view of the loch. This was a hotel staffed by willing but exacerbated workers. It went full Fawlty Towers when one American guest sheepishly asked for a bath towel, “It’s in the dryer”. Not a hint of the banned “s” word. Might be better in full season. Management need to think about how they treat their team.

Awful food. Very disappointing. Fish was anaemic and tasteless and I had over 10 bones in my piece. Chips were lacking in flavour. Very disappointing for a £45 1 course meal for 2. I complained but staff were apologetic but not too bothered.l and didn’t offer a refund or alternative.

We have just returned from a 2 week trip around Scotland in our new campervan - a first for us. We visited the Isle of Skye and booked to stay at the campsite next door to the Balmacara Hotel for one night. We were well and truly ready for a nice meal, dressed up a bit (smart casual as the guidance suggested) and politely declined the suggestion that the onsite offering of food was good, simply because we wanted to sit at a table in a nice setting. So we arrived and asked for a table for two; we hadn't booked so the ladies in Reception looked at us ominously. Three bookings were no-show so they kindly offered us a table. We were very grateful and impressed - many thanks for that. The campsite 'blurb' suggested that the hotel offered good homemade food, so we didn't expect haute cuisine, just nicely cooked, tasty food. I was craving vegetables! We both had a starter - they were 'ok'- my smoked salmon starter was nicely presented. We had both ordered steak, which was priced at £29.95 (each) so we had pretty high expectations. in short, it was really poor - no taste and my partner's steak was really gristly (unfortunate for the chef that he is the fussier one when it comes to fat). It was served with chips and peppercorn sauce. No salad, no vegetables. The waitress hadn't offered veg or salad, so in my experience that often means that it will be served with one or other. in hindsight I should have asked but at that price, I thought a few frozen peas at least might have been served on my plate. The waitress took our plates and didn't seem too bothered about whether we enjoyed our meal or not. We decided to let it go. It was the most expensive meal we've had in a long time (we didn't have wine either - just a beer each) at £100. Then came the decider for me to write a review - the couple who sat next to us on another table for two, who were a little older than us, also had a starter and a main. i didn't look because I was always taught that it was rude to look at other people's food :-) A different waitress came to take their plates away after the main course; she asked if their food was alright. The gentleman beside me let her know that it was "disappointing", and was met with a comment along the lines of, "well, I don't see any on the floor, so it must have been ok", and walked away. The four of us sat there politely with eyes wide open. Obviously none of us will be returning - although we will be passing the door again. To campers, I recommend trying the food on the campsite - it looked really good - and always nice to support a small business. To the hotel, it felt like there was an element of 'it doesn't matter because they're tourists and we probably won't be back' - but wouldn't it have been nice if we could have told fellow campers on the various social media groups that we subscribe to just how lovely our meal was? Location is very good but let down by indifferent attitude at reception. Maybe this has recently changed hands. I found reception staff abrupt and unwelcoming. There is no lift and we are both over 70 but staff at the desk did not offer to help with our cases up the stairs. Restaurant staff were very lovely but seemed inexperienced Fish and chips for dinner should be easy to get right but fish was tasteless and peas completely hard. Long list of wine and spirits but only one or two available. They don’t do expresso. They couldn’t give us any bar food for lunch - suggested the Spar shop next door. Although there were separate lights in the room for reading, bedside etc., they only worked if the main light was on too, which made them useless for reading at night. I expected more for the price.

We came into the restaurant after calling 3 times with no answer, we managed to get a table, but with that, the service was below average. We both ordered burgers, and we weren’t inform of any of the items on the menu being unavailable, so I added on mushrooms and peppercorn sauce to my meal, no issues with ordering that. Food came quick which was good, but no time while waiting for food and receiving it was I informed that there was no peppercorn sauce or that the chef “forgot” the mushrooms. I had to ask the waitress about my add ons and she was confused as to what I’ve ordered… showing clear signs of lack of communication between them all. Which affected our experience. Food was mediocre for the price. We had high hopes as it is apparently a high rated hotel/ restaurant. Hopefully this was a once off experience and no one else experiences this shocking service. Never paying £4.50 for a bowl of mushrooms again.

We chose here as it was close to Isle of Skye and half the price of hotels on the isle. It is currently in middle of being refurbished but that didn’t really impact on our stay. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We had evening meal which was nice, though the pork belly dish I had could have been enhanced with some vegetables but this may have been my fault in not reading menu correctly & my mums steak was on tough side - but that happens sometime!! Breakfast is run on continental buffet style where you help yourself to tea coffee etc which was a bit disconcerting for my elderly parents, but the cooked breakfast was perfect. Would definitely recommend the scrambled egg and poached salmon So why only 4 dots not 5 - on night we were there they run out of white wine! We had a lovely Sauvignon blanc with our meal but that was last bottle. The only wine they had was Chardonnay which to be fair was drinkable, but again my elderly parents struggled as they only drink Sauvignon Also little things like hooks on bathroom doors for towels and full length mirrors in bedrooms would help. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would probably stay again (but make sure I had a bottle of Sauvignon in case as back up! )

Easy check in, room clean, fantastic power shower, just what i needed after a 6 hr drive. Had a cracking pint of Guinness at the bar. Will definitely return with my wife at a later point in the year and maybe try some of the food, only reason I give this place 4 star as the pillows are rock hard, so maybe pack a spare pillow like I did.

Excellent service from the staff, they were very helpful with every request . The food is very good , we have a great dinner and breakfast, but the best of all is the staff, they are very friendly and kind helping guest . The views of the loch are stunning and very close to the Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Casttle
