In Kyoto, it's definitely a Japanese-style lodging. The restaurant where you eat breakfast is like a picture. It's a restaurant with rice and side dishes served in pretty bowls, but with a view of the garden. The location is great, great for a morning or night walk. The location is better than the accommodations on Gion Street.
