Ala Hotel Kyoto
"Third time to Kyoto but somehow first time chancing upon this hotel. Very convenient location, about 5 mins walk to Kyoto station. Personally didn’t try the hot spring as I had an injury, hope to try it one day. Breakfast was yummy, lots of options but similar dishes daily. Didn’t get to try everything as I’m not really a breakfast person. Love the vibe, it was so cozy I didnt want to leave. Really love that they use shower break pola range too!! Definitely will be back to stay again!"
The OneFive Kyoto Shijo
"The first impression of the hotel was good, but things went downhill quickly. When I entered my room, I found food stains on the panel behind the bed, long hair on the bathroom floor, and a used toilet with paper still inside. I asked the receptionist for cleaning, but the cleaning staff had already left for the day. He offered me another room, but it had visibly worn-out and broken furniture, damaged doors, and exposed cables. I decided instead to have my original room cleaned the next morning. When the receptionist came to check the room, he walked all over the bathroom and even into the shower with his street shoes. I was shocked and told him I did not want anyone walking with shoes in the bathroom or shower area where I’d be barefoot. His response was dismissive—he insisted it was hotel policy to walk with shoes anywhere in the room. Instead of apologizing, he acted cocky and refused to acknowledge the issue. The location was okay, but overall, the cleanliness and staff attitude were unacceptable. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel."
The Hedistar Hotel Kyoto Nijo Comic&Books

Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa
"The hotel's location is excellent, right across from Nijo Castle. The staff are quite friendly, but it feels like this might be Mitsui Fudosan's first foray into such a high-end luxury hotel, as the overall system operation seems a bit unrefined. In particular, one older gentleman at the Italian restaurant, who seemed to be from the head office, really dropped the ball on service. The hotel design is quite good and refined."

Urban Hotel Kyoto Nijo Premium
"I stayed for 4 nights from January 4 to January 8, 2026. From the hotel, you can walk to Nijo Castle in about 10 minutes. There are many small convenience stores nearby (7-Eleven and the like), as well as two large supermarkets — Life is open until midnight, which is a huge plus. You can buy nice gifts for friends and family late in the evening without wasting daytime hours. The transportation access is great too: within a few minutes' walk there's a subway station and a JR line (convenient for coming from the railway station), and right next to the hotel there's a bus stop. This is important because Kyoto's sights are scattered all over the city, and you often need to use public transport or taxis. Speaking of taxis. Twice I asked the reception to call me a taxi, and both times the staff helped me — a huge thank you to them! It was especially important on the first day: thanks to a taxi, I made it to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in time and explored it without rushing. Check-in was very quick, and the staff explained where everything was. The room was quite spacious — or maybe it just felt that way. I comfortably unpacked my suitcase and took out everything I needed without feeling cramped. The room had all the essentials, and there were kettles near the elevator that you could take to your room if needed. I did, and had some tea before bed (on the first floor, you can grab a free tea bag if you don't have your own). The air conditioner worked for both cooling and heating — which was very useful on some evenings. Honestly, I only used the hotel to sleep, and it was perfectly fine. Every morning, breakfast is served on the first floor. To be honest, I expected something simple since the room rate was quite affordable. That's why the breakfast was such a pleasant surprise! My eyes wandered every morning at the variety of delicious food! A huge selection. Every day I had rice with various toppings, amazing salmon, cod, and various vegetables (the okra here was especially good). There's a small smoking room on the first floor with good ventilation. My overall impression of the hotel is extremely positive. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto."
Keio Prelia Hotel Kyoto Karasuma-Gojo
"quadruple room is very spacious with 2 toilets. each floor has ice machine and water dispenser which is very convenient."
