Scenic Hotels in Kyoto

"This was my third stay here, and I'm already quite familiar with the place, feeling completely at home. Every day, I'd head out for some coffee or matcha, then come back for another drink. In the evenings, the lobby was quiet enough for me to work on emails. The location is super convenient with plenty of supermarkets nearby. KOMEDA is right across the street, and there are tons of restaurants in the Sannjo-kai area, plus many cafes. The room size was sufficient, clean, and well-equipped. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Kyoto!"

"Stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kawaramachi Jokyoji from 20-24 Dec. This was my 2nd stay there in 2 consecutive months, despite there being hundreds of hotels in Kyoto.  Location:  the hotel is located in the city center with Nishiki Market and Teramachi indoor shopping street located very closeby. Kawaramachi is also a big commercial street lined with plethora of shops and malls.  Train stations within walking distance.  Hotel Facilities and Amenities:  this is a very beautiful hotel next to a temple (and small cemetery). The rooms are exemplary clean and quite spacious for Japan’s standard. Many facilities such as a public onsen, on-site restaurant, vending machine, ice machine, etc. No gym, which is not a big deal at all if you are in Kyoto for a short tourist visit.  You will be doing a lot of walking anyway if you choose to.   I only visited the on-site restaurant for dinner once. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Service staff was accommodating (I had to use a wheelchair at the time); however, service was lackluster otherwise.   Hotel staff service:  cannot praise the service by the hotel staff enough. This time around, I had injured my foot and couldn’t walk for 2 days. I was touched by the staff’s incredible kindness - they went out of their way to really help me out. Overall:  if you want city center location with easy access to modern shops and an array of restaurants within walking distance, big and super clean room, and great hospitality,  I’d highly recommend this hotel."

"Stayed here for a few nights while I was in Kyoto. Overall, the service at the front desk were really helpful and kind, and I also enjoyed the bento breakfast that's served every morning, it was really fulfilling, and I still think about it now xD I got the single room, and while it was just enough to let me open up my bigger luggage that was around 24-26 inch, so I feel like if your luggage is bigger than that, it may be a little difficult. However, for someone that travelled solo, and just wants a decent place for my basic necessities (sleep, shower, eat, being in a convenient location etc), it does its job, on top of that, the price was quite affordable too! I would actually consider returning back here to stay, maybe trying out one of their bigger rooms in the future, if I ever do come back to Kyoto, would recommend :)"

"Although it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion."

"This hotel is a 5-minute walk from Shijo Kawaramachi Station. Kyoto isn't very big, and in this weather, you can walk to Kiyomizu-dera, the Gion area, stroll along the river, and even reach the **** area all on foot. On the first day, I took public transport everywhere, only to realize later how close everything actually was. The room is small but clean. It's right on a main road, so there's some motorcycle noise, but it didn't bother my sleep much. For consecutive stays, you can put a sticker on your door if you don't want housekeeping; just leave your trash and old towels outside, and fresh ones will be hung on your door. Breakfast includes four types of bread, onsen tamago (hot spring egg), coffee, yogurt, milk, and mashed potatoes for 40 yuan, which I found very satisfying. Consumables are available for self-service by the elevator. On check-in and check-out days, you can use your Suica card to lock your luggage, which is right in front of the front desk. There are many restaurants in the alley between the hotel and the Kamo River worth trying."

"The hotel is very close to the bus stop, and the subway station is just a short walk away. There's a supermarket right downstairs which is super convenient for snacks and meals, and a FamilyMart directly opposite. Plus, there's a 7-Eleven down the alley to the left, which is also very handy. The room itself was clean and quite spacious, the bed was comfortably firm, and the self-service amenities were great. Highly recommend!"

"The room was a bit small, but very clean. The breakfast had a great variety. Most importantly, the location was super convenient, right across from Kyoto Station. It seems to be a very popular hotel, as there were frequent queues for breakfast."

"It was an okay hotel and that's it. What we found convenient was the laundry machines and the dryer machines. And something very useful they had a scale so you could weigh your luggage. Also they were providing clean towels every day and the bathroom was really nice."

"The breakfast was very delicious and had a wide variety of choices. Everything tasted great and I never got bored of it even after a few days. The onsen was also very comfortable and relaxing — it was the perfect way to unwind after a long day. I also really liked the shampoo and bath amenities provided by the hotel; they smelled amazing and made my hair feel very smooth. Another nice touch was that the hotel provided free laundry washing, although the dryer required a small fee. They also offered free ramen at night, which was a really nice service, but I was too full to try it at the time. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back again!"
