Hotel near Gion/Kiyomizu Temple,Kyoto
Opened in 2023, Hoshiyado Higashiyama Mochizukikyo draws its design inspiration from the Kamo River, which has accompanied the growth of Kyoto, the ancient capital with over a thousand years of history, and boasts a history even longer than the city itself. Unlike Kyoto's ornate palaces and grand pavilions, the Kamo River exudes a gentle and tranquil charm. We invite you to spend a serene evening by the river, enjoying the reflection of the moon on the water with your loved ones, and experiencing the most authentic and unadorned side of Kyoto. We offer six interconnected townhouse-style accommodations for your selection: A–D (Crescent Moon, Waning Moon, First Quarter Moon, and Last Quarter Moon) are two-story units, each equipped with a semi-open-air bathtub. E (Twilight Moon) is also a two-story unit but slightly larger in size, with a semi-open-air bathtub included. F (Little Full Moon) is our most spacious option, featuring a single-story layout. We look forward to hosting you for an unforgettable stay.

"The room is very new, the layout is designed with new Japanese-style rooms in all aspects, from kitchenware, bathroom to decorations are of high quality, very exquisite, especially with floor heating, it is perfect for Kyoto, which suddenly cools down in autumn and winter! Can cook, microwave, kitchenware all available, but no seasoning. Convenient transportation, the Keihan line came out for a few minutes, the nearby bus station is also very convenient, the subway needs to transfer through the Keihan tram, walking to some attractions is not far. Navigation remember to use Google and Gode at the same time, otherwise Google may navigate you to the back of the hotel. Friendship reminder, Kyoto is not suitable outside after the sun goes down, even in residential areas, be sure to pull all curtains in the hotel, lock the door, if you hear or encounter any strange things, you don't know, it is the best protection for yourself!"

GGuest UserThe service was very good. My family member was sick and the hotel brought breakfast to the room separately. They also helped me find a clinic. Although I didn't have a good experience because of the illness, it was still very good. It's also nice to go around.

LLiujingyanWe chose a large corner room with windows on both sides. The hotel building has a history of more than 200 years. The location is great. It is right at the entrance of Kiyomizu Temple Commercial Street. It is quiet in the bustling city. The hotel is very quiet and elegant, with high-end decoration, complete facilities and excellent service! Breakfast is served in a library-style restaurant, which is very special. I highly recommend Japanese breakfast. Everyone thinks it is high-end Japanese cuisine when they post it on WeChat Moments. There are also vegetarian and children's meal options for breakfast. I also strongly recommend the window seat in the executive lounge. Drink Japanese tea or Japanese whiskey in the afternoon and look at the quaint buildings outside. It is worth the effort!

GGuest UserWhen I booked, I didn't realize that rooms on the 5th floor and below had their windows completely blocked by the building opposite. I only found out upon arrival, and had to pay extra to upgrade to a better room – it was a total rip-off! The upgraded room was great though! It had a very unique Japanese style and even a private onsen. The public lobby was also very nice, and the breakfast was exquisite, with both Japanese and Western options.

GGuest UserHotel Okura Kyoto was the most pleasant surprise of our entire trip. First off, you can walk directly into the hotel from the subway. After getting off the subway, you enter a shopping mall, and the walk from the mall to the hotel has a very upscale feel to it. The hotel staff were incredibly welcoming; we weren't sure how to get to the lobby for check-in from a shop in the mall, and a staff member from the shop actually escorted us there. Both the lobby and the breakfast area had a very high-end ambiance. We booked a corner king room, which offered direct views of the Kamo River. The mountain scenery was absolutely stunning, and looking out the window felt like gazing at a beautiful painting. The hotel staff, just like in a standard five-star hotel back home, helped us with our luggage, which is quite rare for the five-star hotels we've stayed at a few times in Japan. They also offer a shuttle bus service from Hotel Okura to Kyoto Station. The shuttle drivers were very polite, which was another big plus.

IIRADAThough the hotel itself is good (I’m staying here for a second time), this time the service was awful.1) went to breakfast, me and my friend ordered 2 dishes, when in 20 mins time there still was nothing, we reminded a waitress of our order… another 20 mins - still nothing. All in all we spent 40 mins at the breakfast restaurant and didn’t get our food. When we explained this to the hostess she just said “sorry” and we left the restaurant hungry. 2) ordered afternoon tea for 3 persons (afternoon tea is served at another restaurant at the hotel). 2 normal sets and 1 for a person who doesn’t like dairy products. That person is me. I explained that I have no allergy, I just don’t like the taste of milk, cheese, et cetera. So I’m fine with bread and with sweets, just not the ones that have cheese on top. In the end instead of the sweets they brought me a fruit platter (that’s all, my friends got a lot of different sweets), when I again explained to the hostess that I’m fine with sweets (sweet bread) and would like to eat the sweets included in the afternoon tea set she just said that they “prepared smth else” for me (she meant the fruit platter). No apology no anything. Mind you, I ordered afternoon tea last year at this same place - everything was alright! As this is a 5 star hotel and everything here is rather expensive (including breakfast and afternoon tea) this is unacceptable level if service.

GGuest UserMy wife and I booked the Classic Room for 3 nights in April 2025. We thought this was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by the hotel staff. You leave your bags with them and you walk up to a separate reception area where you are seated and offered tea and macarons. Check in is conducted while you sip your tea. After you get your keys, you go up to your room and your luggage bags are already there. We were very impressed by the reception. The room itself is fairly sizeable and offers a cabinet of Fauchon snacks. We had a good view of the alley behind the hotel that was lined with Sakura trees. We could also see the mountains in the distance. The location of the hotel is also great. It is located about a 5-10 minutes walk from downtown Kyoto and about a 5 minutes walk to Kiyomizu-gojo station. We also had breakfast which included a free flow selection of bread and pastries like French croissant, baguette and brioche. You also get a fruit plate, salad, and omelette. If you stay for more than 1 night, you also get a premium breakfast menu for your 2nd night onwards. We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we are in Kyoto.

IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves. When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service. The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point. There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.

GGuest UserFacilities: My only complaint is that the king-size bed in the king room is made of two single mattresses pushed together, and after sleeping on it for a while, a gap forms between them. Hygiene: The hygiene is excellent. Environment: The surrounding area is very quiet, and there are convenience stores not too far away. Service: The service attitude is great, and the hotel even offers free shuttle service to Kyoto Station.

JjhbennyFirst off, the location is excellent, right across from Hankyu Arashiyama. We came from Kyoto, and there's a direct bus from our Kyoto hotel, so we took the bus. We checked in at 3 PM, dropped off our luggage, and then went to explore around Togetsukyo Bridge. We also had tickets for the Arashiyama Scenic Railway at 2:30 PM. For dinner, we had two time slots, 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM; we chose 5:30 PM, and the dinner was fantastic. The hotel also offers a late-night snack. The private onsen baths were busy at night, so we opted for the public bath, which was empty since we went early. The next morning, we chose a private bath. This stay included two meals, and we had plenty of time, so it truly felt like a vacation. Oh, and there's a tea bar on the first floor; I love mocha or cocoa. After the evening bath, there are popsicles, and after the morning bath, there's lactic acid drink. It's wonderful!

김연진The charming atmosphere of this century-old ryokan and its friendly staff were truly impressive. The spacious room and private onsen allowed me to completely relax and rejuvenate throughout my stay. The exquisite kaiseki dinner, enjoyed with a stunning view of the Japanese garden, was a highlight. Nanzenji Yachiyo Ryokan, which allowed me to experience the unique charm of rainy Kyoto, was simply superb. I'm even thinking of visiting again just to return an umbrella to the owner!
