Several things went wrong that shouldn't have during my stay that, while if experienced as a stand alone issue wouldn't be the end of the world, but taken together made this memorable for the wrong reasons. Let's start with first impressions: no one at the front desk, wandered around trying to find someone to check in and waited 10 minutes until someone emerged from the back office, and then no baggage assistance, have to move everything yourself. I booked the Riviera Suite on the top floor of the tower, and while unique, it was clear that the suite was not properly prepared for our stay. The room was filled with dust, my allergies immediately acted up and upon opening a window to try and get some air, so much dust was blown about I had to leave the room and wait for it to settle. The couch had a big stain on the cushion which was less than appealing, and the coffee machine was broken, it was stuck on some mandatory cleaning cycle that couldn't be switched off. The windows constantly rattled with the wind and no soundproofing meant hearing all of the road noise outside day and night. The bathroom was average at best, with a plastic shower enclosure and a wand which felt very cheap for the supposedly best suite in the hotel. Hot water also ran out after about 5 minutes, I called down and asked if there was a problem with it and they said "it happens" so was forced to take a cold shower when it's 2* outside. I also requested extra bedding at check in and at 11:30pm it had still not been delivered. They forgot, and then couldn't find any, wasn't until after midnight it was delivered to me for a 4pm request. Lastly another minor design flaw, the heating is along the windows, but the draperies are full length, so when closing them you also block any heat into the room so you can be warm or block the sun but not both. And speaking of the lack of sound proofing, loud construction noise woke me abruptly at 7am, was unsure if it was from the hotel or not but the loud sawing and banging should not be so easily heard from the inside of a tower on the 7th floor. On the food, breakfast was an average buffet, however dinner in the steakhouse was disappointing. Waitstaff much more concerned with bigger parties and service was slow and forgetful, and the filet I ordered was very hard to cut, despite being cooked to the proper temperature, I complained and the waiter just brought me another knife, which didn't solve the problem. Upon checkout and trying to depart the parking lot for which you are charged a large fee to self-park (no valet), the gate would not rise and the intercom system of course was broken, so had to go back inside and ask for the gate to be raised, then run at top speed back to my car and pull out before the gate closed again. I understand this is not the Beau Rivage, but when one books the most expensive room at the hotel, one expects a certain level of service and comfort, and unfortunately neither were delivered.
