Mercure le Touquet

We stayed 3 nights in a privilege room. The hotel is just perfect. The decoration is neat, the staff friendly, the room magnificent with balcony and king size bed, slippers and bathrobes included. It was spacious, comfortable and very pretty with a view of the forest. The place is quiet. The large outdoor space at the back is very pleasant in the sun! The breakfast is great, very wide variety of products. The spa is exceptional. There was hardly anyone there. I loved this spa area and on the other side, the swimming area. Perfect sauna. Parking was included in the room price. We walked into town several times. Very nice walk along the magnificent houses. I recommend !

First the good news. Brand new hotel so everything is clean and fresh. Liked the fact that it was 30 mins walk/10 mins bike into town - it was quiet and peaceful. The pool was very nice as was the outdoor spa area. Rooms are on the small size (ask for one with a larger balcony - ours was tiny) but perfectly fine. The Cabana area was great - live music, food was good (pizzas, meat and cheese boards, snacks) and service from the charming Juliette especially was kind and smiling. Reception staff need better training - they aren’t particularly friendly and when we checked out no one even asked if we’d enjoyed our stay! I was also given the iron and ironing board if asked for whilst standing in reception so I had to carry it to the room myself rather than having it delivered - which was odd. But by far the biggest issue we had was the restaurant. It clearly sees itself as fine dining and had a price point to match. This is not matched by the quality. We paid €175 with wine for two, for which we’d expect something pretty good. Our ‘ceviche’ was nothing of the sort. Raw fish yes but should be bursting with citrus flavour. Remarkably it didn’t taste of anything at all. We added a ton of salt, pepper and lemon juice to try and kick it into life but it was pointless. The ‘chimichurri’ on top again was an insult to Latin America. It was basically a dry ratatouille with courgettes and red peppers - neither of which you’d EVER see in a chimichurri. It was horrible. The main course was tuna tataki which traditionally is laden with flavours of ginger and soy. It will come as no surprise that it featured neither, instead being overcooked tuna slicked with a weird orange sauce and some small random veg scattered around it. There was also a glob of what tasted like yellow bean hummus on the plate - just weird. Trying way too hard to be clever - if you can’t cook tataki, chimichurri or ceviche - which you can’t - then stick to what you know. We are out every other night which we wouldn’t have if the restaurant had been any good. It’s terrible. The best part was the bread basket. When we gave our critique at the time, the waitress didn’t particularly seem to care and same for when we checked out when we mentioned this disaster again. Save yourself the financial pain and the disappoin**ent of this kitchen’s inadequacy and if you stay in go for the less fancy, but much better, food on the terrace at the Cabana. And experience great service if people like Juliette who genuinely seem to care.

The hotel is a grand old hotel, but on a human scale - the hotel has been beautifully refurbished and no expense appears to have been spared. We had a superior room, which I think is the bottom category of room, but it didn’t disappoint- extremely well equipped and very comfortable. The public rooms were very comfortable, the staff helpful and very professional- nothing was too much trouble. If you go to Le Touquet, spoil yourself and stay here - it is well worth it.

Excellent central location with secure parking. Very clean and staff very helpful / friendly. Would have been nice to have a kettle in the room and more space in the parking garage (walls between cars made spaces VERY narrow and it was very difficult to get in / out of the car). Central location means can get noisy at night but no problem with the windows closed. Easy walk to the beach and numerous local restaurants. Le Touquet itself is rather expensive due to tourists, so be prepared to pay at least 20 euros for a simple burger and chips. Art gallery and lighthouse only open on certain days, so check before you go.

This evaluation is mainly for the reference of Chinese tourists who will stay. Let me talk about the bad aspects first: the first is that there are no slippers. This European hotel basically does not provide slippers, so it is not a complaint point, so come to Europe to bring a few pairs of slippers; The second is that there is no hot water bottle, but the restaurant has free hot water to use; the third hotel parking lot is charged, if you want to save money, you can ask the lobby staff for free parking in the neighborhood near the hotel; the fourth breakfast is too simple, the variety is too small, compared to other business hotels The price is too low; The fifth shower is too small, the room has a bathtub to choose from, the bathtub also has a shower head, but there is no wall fixture, so you need to keep holding it by hand. Next, let's talk about the good aspects: the first clean, the bathroom tile Mediterranean style, very beautiful; The second radiator is big enough, I stayed in early November, very warm; the third hotel is very close to the beach, only a few tens of meters away
