Boutique Hotel Steenhof Suites - Adults Only

I just wanted to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Steenhof Suites. We visited at the end of April - just in time for the Keukenhof. We absolutely loved staying here. It could be a tiny bit noisy (not all guests can close room doors quietly) it really did not impact our stay here at all. Our Nassau Suite room on the main floor was extremely spacious - had a large shower, spotlessly clean and a very comfy bed. Staff here are lovely and you quickly become one of the Steenhof suites family. They can't do enough for you. We enjoyed their breakfast the first morning - it was presented beautifully and was absolutely delicious. Location in Leiden was perfect, very close to everything you wanted to see, do or eat. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Leiden is a lovely little town, easy access from Amsterdam (30 min away by train) and will be our choice to stay in whenever we visit the Amsterdam area. We had a wonderful stay at the Steenhof suites. We were there for 3 nights and stayed there as we had read an article about them in the Times newspaper travel article. We had been planning to go to Amsterdam but so glad we chose to stay in Leiden instead - a lovely city. It's in a beautiful old building and was spotlessly clean. We had a lovely reception when we arrived and were given the keys to our room - suite #4. It was lovely and looked out onto the front of the property towards the canal. The breakfast in the morning was great - served from 8am with the best croissants I have ever tasted! Some reviwers had mentioned church bells ringing all through the night - not when we were there. You can hear them but they're not loud and didn't affect our sleep. As others have said as it's an old building it does have a few little issues - we could hear the steps of the couple upstairs but we weren't in our rooms much and all was quiet at night. Getting cases upstairs is hilarious! The stairs are narrow but just take your time. The receptionist offered to help us but we decided we needed the work out!! Walking to the train station was an easy 20 minutes walk; however I wouldn't recommend it with luggage as the streets are cobbled and are narrow in places. We easily got a taxi at the station and the hotel arranged a taxi on the day we checked out. Getting around the area is easy on the trains. So in summary would highly recommend Leiden and the Steenhof Suites.

Steep spiral wooden stairs, no lift. Breakfast could be a little less food, I wasted much of it. Especially don't book the room on the top floor with the bathtub, you won't enjoy it. Only shampoo soap and body lotion in the bathroom - I would like to see better bathroom amenities to match the excellence of this hotel. The location is about a 15-20 minute walk to the station, mostly flat.
