I decided to book a 3 night stay here partly on the basis of TA reviews. Hotel easy to get to by metro from airport,, via the Red line down to Alemada then change to green line and one stop to Arroios station which is 50 metres from hotel. The street in general , less than a mile from the city centre may seem a bit grubby but once inside the hotel, a smart reception and friendly and very helpful staff await. I requested a quiet room at the back as other reviewers referred to busy street noise and we were given a twin room 209 at the rear. Very smart, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, a small fridge. (But not kettle for making a brew in the room) Quiet in the room but strangely I was aware at times of the distant rùmble of the metro trains underground but this wasn't really an issue. Breakfast is served between 7.30 to 10 and I have to say I was very impressed with the choice of food on offer, cereals, fruit, breads, eggs, scrambled and hard boiled. even sponge cakes and little pastries. Coffee machine gave a wide selection as well as the fruit juices on offer. It set us up well for the day exploring Lisbon. With Arroios metro station just outside, its a just five minute ride into the city and very easy to navigate. The room stay worked out the equivalent of £50 per person per night which was great value. With very helpful staff and excellent cleaning service in the rooms I would certainly use the Empire Hotel if I return to Lisbon.
