Blue Horizon Hotel

Reading the latest reviews I think we must have stayed in a different hotel! Although the hotel is in definitely in need of upgrading, we didn’t find the problems others seem to have done! I visited with my sister, and our room was on the top floor with a view of the pool and the sea. Good sized room, could have slept three, with a large balcony. There were steps of course, but we didn’t find a problem with them, although I understand they might not be suitable for anyone disabled. Our luggage was taken up and down by Christos, offered straight away! Room and balcony were cleaned regularly with towels changed every day. Ok, the bathroom needs some attention but it was not dirty. The price was very reasonable, especially considering we were half board, the food was good, specially liked special greek dishes and the greek salad! The house wine was also fine, after we asked to have it served colder! Breakfast was typical of greek hotels of this star rating, perfectly acceptable. I have visited Greece many many times, in all grades of accommodation, from 5 star down. In my opinion if you want 5 star you expect to pay 5 star prices! This was a last minute deal for us and I would say we got what we paid for. The attitude of the staff, always smiling and happy to help, made up for a lot! Loved Kefalonia, and with a bit of upgrading, would be happy to return to this hotel. We also made some lovely new friends, always a bonus!

Small filthy (sea view) room with tiny balcony set above kitchen.(noisy) ..Shower tiny and almost blocked by sink. Nowhere to rest toilet bag or toiletries. Room facilities were very poor. No hanging space for dresses or longer outfits, one drawer under short hanging area. Furniture which served no purpose other than blocking floor space. Sheets changed once in 14 days. Some towels were dried on balcony whilst lady cleaned toilet? If you count pouring liquid down toilet. Swimming pool area neglected…weeds, ants, unemptied/uncovered bins, broken badly stained sunbeds and pool area never swept or hosed down. Breakfast food cold as it lay from after 7am till one could have breakfast at 8am. Limited selection unless you like to have a variety of eggs at the same sitting. Evening meal was snack bar standard. Some food was transported from neighbouring hotel? General areas were unclean and unless you like to share meal times with wild cats pestering you this hotel is not for you. Badly needs upgrading. The cleaning staff, aid in the kitchen, in the same clothes, without overalls or apron protection. The men who work the pool bar, serve the evening food and bar are very friendly and pleasant but their efforts fall short when they try extremely hard to make up for what this establishment lacks. Sadly it is not enough.

The hotel needs a refurbishment and cleaners that clean not just tidy the bed. Some of the staff were fab, others had a didn't care attitude. Breakfast small selection of cereal, tinned fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese but mainly eggs fried, poached , hard boiled wrapped in "bacon" and baked with beans! No atmosphere, pool bar shut. Air con was old and not efficient. Local beach was a small cove beautiful clear sea which was lush to swim in. The area had a few restaurants and 1 supermarket. If you want peace and quiet this is for you. Does have good bus to get to Lassi which was fab and Argostoli. Bus was 2euros, taxi 20-25 euros.

Visited this hotel for two weeks in September... for our birthdays...Dirty sunbeds...not fit for purpose...the smell from the macerator was unbearable...day and night....the smell and noise....we paid for a sea view room......not advisable..... kefalonia beautiful....but not this hotel....never again .....

We stayed at the Blue Horizon hotel for a week from 18th September. We have been to Greece many times and stayed in 3 star hotels with no problems. Unfortunately this time that wasn't the case. We had two rooms on the first floor. Both were Very tatty and needed renovating. The bathrooms were very dirty with mould in the small shower cubicles . My shower had no hook on the wall so had to hold the shower in my hand and have a wash .The bathrooms and the bedrooms were not cleaned all week. Only the bins emptied. The sheets were not changed and the towels once only after I asked. There was a birds nest out side my front door and bird poo left all over the floor. The pool was dirty and the sun beds were disgusting with sweat and sun cream stains all over them. The smell of sewage from the car park was revolting and as our rooms were close to the car park we could not use our balcony. Despite all of this we had a lovely holiday. We hired a car and went out every day touring the beautiful island. Sadly we will not be returning.

Booked with jet2. We usually take online reviews with a pinch of salt as sometimes people have unrealistic expectations. This wasn’t one of those times. Have been to Greece many times and usually stay in two/three star accommodation as we like smaller quieter hotels. We do not mind basic but clean is a must. This hotel was dirty and shabby. Sheets and not changed in one week and towels only once after we asked. Room not cleaned, just bin emptied. Stained and heavily limescaled bathroom. Dirty taps. Needs basic maintenance. Eg No shower attachment in one of our rooms so had to hold the shower head in your hand whilst trying to wash. Bird poo all over balcony and walkways, just left. Very bad smell of sewage near the car park, especially after rain, we could not use the balcony as the room was close by. Sunbeds were fabric but left out in all weather so soiled and dirty. Flaking paint and generally just run down The jet2 website described it as recently renovated which was not true at all. Positives: Quiet location Staff overall helpful and friendly No complaints about pool Aircon worked ok, five euros a day, safe box free, fridge in room, kettle (have to buy your own supplies) Breakfast was okay It was not even a cheap stay. Book elsewhere.

Not a 3 star hotel no way, only way to get seaview was to be on 3rd floor no lifts, myself and husband are disabled and had to climb it every day, the whole place isn't suitable for anyone with mobility issues as it's stairs all over,rooms are filthy, bathroom disgusting, sink was green and grim my shower mouldy and toilet never cleaned, bedding changed once in 11 nights, and when we lifted mattresses was shocked to see slats all moved so unsafe, air con leaked made dressing table mouldy floor wasn't swept, maid would do room in 2 minutes, i timed her, cleaning staff had worst attitudes, pool was dirty sunbeds ripped and brown with dirt, tried to charge us for things we hadn't ordered when checking out never again

Housekeeping & food hygiene not up to scratch-some rude staff who need customer service training-mould in showers -toilet not cleaned once when I was there-as a solo traveller basically ignored-not reccomended esp. for the price-never again

Hotel needs updating throughout. Lack of facilities in room, even for a 2/3 star. Hotel needs deep cleaned. Food prep/ service not hygienic as breakfast food set up at 7/7:30 but breakfast opens 8sm. Food left uncovered and not kept warm, so breakfast always cold. Evening meal is snack bar style/ quality. Overgrown weeds, bamboo/bins and broken dirty sun beds at pool area with glasses from pool bar often left lying overnight. Pool area NEVER cleaned. Noise from airport could annoy some people. Worst holiday experience ever..
