My wife & I stayed 2 nights this week, going up by train from Birmingham. The hotel itself was very clean: room 106 was spotless, had a great shower and even a small fridge. We stayed on a Sunday and Monday night. There was a little 'boom, boom' from a pub downstairs till midnight, but I'd advise you go out anyway! Their 'Grab & Go' breakfast, which is collectable from reception, is adequate to take you through till lunch time. An option is the Wetherspoon pub round the corner opposite James St Metro. It is only 2 short stops on the Metro from Liverpool Lime Street and the hotel is literally around the corner (turn left as you leave James St Metro station and 1st left into Fenwick St). It saves about 10 minutes walk with bags. The hotel is close to everything you'd want to see: 2 roads back from the water front and near to the Liver Building, Museum of Liverpool etc. Mathew St Cavern Club area is about 6 minutes easy walk. Head to Bold St for some great eateries. There's some very good lunchtime deals if you don't mind your main meal 12 - 5pm. Try Elif for very tasty Turkish BBQ food at £14.95 per person for 2 courses: you may not finish it all. We did an 'Afternoon tea with Cilla' on the Sunday at The Bentley, which was very close by and a good party atmosphere. If you're there on a Monday night, I recommend visiting the Cavern Pub for Ian Prowse's Open Mic Night. It's non-stop performer after performer, limited to 2 songs each of only original material (no covers). I'd definitely look to book on another trip.
