I don't generally leave negative reviews, as any hotel can have a bad day, or a singular instance of something going wrong that's outside of their control. Unfortunately The Peninsula in London has systematic issues, and I am leaving this so that other guests who have stayed at other Peninsula locations are at least aware that things may not be as rosy as the other reviews here suggest. In short, with the Peninsula in London you are paying among the highest rates in the city for a hotel that feels like it is pre-opening, and hasn't figured out how to operate itself smoothly yet. I've stayed here twice now and encountered a slew of both minor and major issues. As an example, this time around I was woken up up early the first morning by noise from the room above me. Astoundingly, I was told by the assistant manager that this was not by the hotel itself but by private contractors, as the hotel has decided to sell/lease floors of the hotel to private owners. Apparently the hotel has have no idea when those owners will bring in contractors or what work they will do, and so are completely in the dark as to what may or may not disturb guests. In my new room I then discovered the entertainment system was broken and despite reporting it at approximately 3pm to staff by the time I left the hotel at 6.30pm nothing had been done about it. While I was out staff installed an Apple TV in my room. I had agreed to this under the assumption the hotel also has an Apple TV account for me to use, but I found this was not the case and if I wanted any entertainment I'd have to pay Apple for it. Anyway, all is not lost, at least I'd have a good nights sleep the second night, surely! But it was not to be. In a Fawlty Towers-esque turn of events I was woken up early again on the second morning! This time it was the hotel's IT staff eagerly arriving to fix the problem with the entertainment system, reported 16 hours previously. Amusing in retrospect, maddening at the time. My recommendation would be to stay somewhere else and check back in a year or two when hopefully these issues will have sorted themselves out.
