A very traditional pub in a lovely square adjacent to Smithfield market. Popped in for a pre-lunch drink. A young Australian barman was in behind the bar and there was only one other customer. Asked for a Bloody Mary and was told they don't do cocktails. Explained that it isn't a cocktail and did they have tomato juice. Barman said that they did and I responded that I would explain how to make it. He begrudgingly filled a tall glass to the very top with ice. I asked him to take some out. He was in such a bad mood that he spilt most of the ice over the bar (which was not particularly clean) and then picked the rest up with his hands and put the ice cubs back in the bucket rather than throwing them away. I asked if could add some Worcester Sauce and he said that didn't have any, even though there was a catering size bottle immediately in front of him. He then put a huge amount into the Bloody Mary so it was practically black. We took our drinks over to a quiet corner and the barman followed us and started slamming boxes of wine around immediately next to our table. Shortly after a friend of his arrived and they spent 10 minutes swearing (lots of the F word) and the barman said that a customer had recently complained about his attitude which is hardly surprising. Needless to say we finished our drinks as quickly as we could and will never return. Such a shame as otherwise we would have stayed a lot longer and the pub itself is fine.

Nice friendly and professional Alessandra and Angelika. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. I've tried the Sunday lunch which was a great experience and the flavours were great....the best around Smithfield Meat Market by far. Will definitely return x

I have never stayed here before and I was pleasantly surprised. Arrived before check-in time and the cases were safely stored away for us. The Manager kindly took both suitcases to the room as the steps were steep and narrow. (There is no lift). The room was well appointed with a selection of refreshments, glasses and cups. The bathroom had a wide selection of toiletries available and sufficient shelf space for your own. Bearing in mind that the rooms are above a pub and it is located in central London, noise levels were tolerable. Breakfast is exceptionally good. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Quick get away with my sister, room was lovely - tap was dripping and the throw on the bed could do with a wash, but other than that it was lovely. I had stayed before so the my husband so knew what to expect. Food was lovely - we had dinner and breakfast. Staff were lovely and very attentive and helpful. I would definitely stay again, their Sunday night deal is really good value,

What a brilliant, unexpected find The Fox & Anchor was! We stumbled across their Sunday Stay deal which included both an excellent evening meal and breakfast the following day. Incredible value for money. Anybody who might be apprehensive at staying in a pub should spend a night here, they’d never look back! Huge, sumptuous suite with an enormous bathroom with free standing bath AND a wet room. I was in my element! It was also surprisingly quiet given its (very convenient) City location. The staff were super helpful, it was warm and clean and I honestly didn’t want to leave. We’ll be back!

We wanted somewhere near the Barbican hall 10 mins walk) We arrived to a packed pub & underwhelming checkin. But from there it was fabulous! Room lovely. Spotlessly clean, great decor & so comfortable. Aircon a bonus at my age lol. Wonky toilet seat part of 'quirky' ;) We ate in the pub, staff were so lovely & the food spot on. We sat in a little booth, it was cute. Wine good & all round great buzzing atmosphere. The walk to our concert was 10 mins. Coming back the pub was pretty much closed but the guys got us drinks to take up. Our room was so quiet... We didn't go for breakfast but can only imagine it wld be lovely. A really good option in the City & one we will definitely do again. Of course you can complain abt things however nothing spoilt our enjoyment of this stay! (Be mindful if you have mobility issues this is an old building, narrow stairs over 3 floors)

The rooms were decadent, cozy and decorated beautifully… I loved loved loved being above the little Pub. the staff behind the bar was so helpful and cute… Check-in was easy. Location was so quick for an Uber to pick you up… Would definitely recommend and stay here again.… I’m gonna decorate my room like this when I get home :-)

Great location, fabulous room (other than a dripping tap). Sadly staff seemed underresourced - they did try though, despite having limited menu. Clearly on a good day, it would be an amazing little hideaway full of atmosphere and history.
