We checked in and were offered a complimentary upgrade, which we gratefully accepted. The upgrade turned out to be a disabled/wheelchair access room. Because of this, the room had tiled floors, not carpets. The wash basin was too low, the toilet was too high, and there were grab bars all around the bathroom. The room was built for functionality, not comfort. The shower head wall bracket was loose and so I had to remove the head and hold it to have a shower. There was no mirror in the bedroom for my wife to get ready. The tv remote control didn't work unless it was right next to the tv. The room was painted just a stark white and with white bedding, nothing like the nicely decorated rooms in the photos. The room had more of a feel of a private hospital bedroom rather than a hotel. If this room was an upgrade, I couldn't imagine what a standard room is like. The main entrance is closed from 10pm due to safety concerns, After 10 pm, you have to go round the back. We returned at 11pm, and it took us a good five minutes to find the rear entrance. Nobody told us how to find it during the check-in. Our room was just outside the entrance to the spa and was very noisy, There seemed to be trolleys moving along the corridors during the night, rattling away. Fortunately, I brought ear plugs. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, and tea/coffee facilities were good. If we were staying for more than one night, I'd have demanded to be switched back to a standard room that I had booked. This was nowhere near a five-star experience.
