Stayed in Jan. This review is in the point of view of 2 females from the UK aged 32 and 25, for context we stay at this type of hotel fairly regularly for leisure. The hotel is well designed as you would expect from the brand, small but nice rooms (we stayed in a standard room which was OK for a short stay), comfortable beds and bedding, luxury bathroom and products, no slippers on arrival but delivered very quickly by house keeping when we called reception, really nice steam shower, decent quality mini bar, room service tasty and quick but person answering phone quite amateur. It’s really the service element that let this hotel down for us. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon and didn’t really get the hospitality you would usually expect from the moment you walk in to a 5* hotel. In fairness we were checked in by someone who was new which isn’t her fault but much better training and customer service must be provided and new staff should shadow others at a 5* hotel. No pleasantries were exchanged during check in and there was no porter service or help with bags being offered. Check out on Sunday was slightly better but very formal and no real sincerity. Breakfast is only available until 10.30 on a Sunday… so we missed it but we could have been recommended other local places to eat or offered to hold our luggage while we find somewhere to eat - guests staying at a hotel of this standard shouldn’t have to ask for things every time, some basic guest needs could be anticipated and staff could be a little more experienced in 5* hospitality. We recently stayed at the Nobu nearby as an example and you are acknowledged and treated as a valued guest from the moment you walk in. We had booked spa treatments so upon check in I enquired about it (reception wasn’t aware of what we had booked as it’s a different company and told us if we wanted to use the spa we should have booked in advance assuming we didn’t have this common sense…..) but anyway the spa service didn’t feel luxury in comparison to others we have been to either. One of the therapists which greeted us unfortunately didn’t speak much English at all and generally seemed inexperienced. Note: they said the spa runs as a separate company so you have to have your card with you and pay on the spot, you cannot add to the final hotel bill and you are told a 12.5% “discretionary” service charge will be added before they even start your treatment which feels a little odd, rather than it being discretionary at the end. The treatments themselves were fine/average, but from a service element we left feeling a little awkward rather than relaxed. We decided not to eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the restaurant other than room service for a quick lunch being good. In general we definitely wouldn’t come back as we didn’t leave feeling like we had a nice experience. Luckily room price was very low due to it being January but overall not the kind of place you would stay at for a luxury break, definitely
