Handhuvaru Villa Boutique Hotel

The guesthouse is budget, but for the money there are much better hotels in Maafushi. It is located from the bikini beach at the opposite end of the island, but it’s really not close, about 15 minutes walk. Upon check-in, the hotel administrator requires payment in advance for corona tests, which must be done before departure, and charges $30 more than in other places on the entire island. The rooms are clean, cleaning is done every day, the housing stock is +/- tolerable. Food.. under no circumstances buy on FB and HB as we did, which we very much regretted. We were fed rice or mivina for all 10 days. At the same time, the portions are small to the point of absurdity: from time to time you had to go to the nearest store to buy something more so as not to starve. And in the last few days, our nerves simply couldn’t stand eating the same thing over and over again, remaining constantly hungry, and we simply went to dinner in other hotels to dine for our own money, despite the fact that here the “dinner” was paid for. Breakfast is also something special. Portions are the same as for children (one egg, one piece of bread, cut in half and a spoonful of canned beans). No matter how much we travel, we have never seen such breakfasts anywhere else. Island. This was our second time on the island. The first one was in 2018, then it was a different island and a completely different vacation. Compared to 2018, the number of simultaneous vacationers on the island has increased more than 10 times, and the bikini beach is simply not designed for such a number, it is very crowded. The ocean is impeccable.. The Maldives, after all.. but because of so many vacationers, the living creatures have gone further, to the depths. We will definitely return to the Maldives, but not to this island and certainly not to this guesthouse.
