Wonderful place in a countryside with great outlook... very scenery and nice. The food is ok if you don't have big expectations. That said, the cleaning of the dishes and cutlery as well as the rooms can be improved. You should not forget to ask for cleaning the room with an several nights stay.

We were optimistic given recent reviews. We were on a groupon deal so let’s get that out there. Check in was slow, no queue but seem to want card details for some reason, which was a painful process. Room was ok to be fair, bit tired and has retained shower curtains! Bar, barman was a sound lad and kindly swapped our wine. But all draught but Guiness was off! So bottles it was, paying same price for half a pint in theory. Dinner, was presented with a menu with a grand total of 3 starters & 3 mains to choose from. Had to now look on the funny side and no wonder the poor waitress shot off with a vague (and probably embarrassed) apology. Food was mediocre. We payed for desserts which were really nice, a rare positive. Breakfast. Tea was pre mashed in a tea earn, I think 1 teabag was used to god knows how many litres of hot water, just supply tea bags for goodness sake!! It was sooo weak I didn’t bother trying mine, but when my partner did, it had a peppermint twang. The buffet was ok. No fried eggs or veggie options. No offence to staff but there is clearly lack of effort in general tidying, dusting or maintenance on the hotel as a whole. Our room was nice & clean, it’s just the rest of the hotel. Last nights glasses at the bar still there this morning etc. Will not be back!

A rare opportunity to have a night away with my wife we came across an offer of a one night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast at this hotel. Why not?? On arrival first views looked amazing yet the rear of the property seemed more like Blackpool rather than the front listed building.. Allocated a room which was simply like a hostel prison cell and asked for an alternative which to be fair was like going from the 1960s to a modern day option.. Given a time for our meal and is there a better way of saying it but our evening wear brought for the meal stayed in the suitcase..we’d have looked so out of place. The menu looked nice with steak, chicken, sea bass and fresh pizza and pastas..we sat to be told that menu had been removed and replaced with a 3 starter/3 main option because of the bank holiday??This was a chicken dish or two pasta options..that was it!! No draft beer was available due to the bank holiday?? Truth was a wedding party was in next day and they’d only ordered sufficient quantities of food and gas to cater for that..the rest had to suffer. Ordered the chicken that was truthfully inedible and we literally returned 80% of the meal and not one question as to why.to be honest all staff literally 18 years old and clearly inexperienced. Went to bed and decided make most of it and look forward to breakfast can’t mess that up surely..terribly organised, badly stocked and awful food.. How can I promote any positive on our stay??simply can’t I wouldn’t stay here again if offered a free weekend!! What a waste of what little spare time we have!!

Stayed as a guest for a friend's wedding and enjoyed our visit. The room was comfortable enough, but could probably use some modernisation in terms of lighting and layout. (The TV was at the opposite angle to the bed and was not on a bracket, there were no power outlets beside the bed and the bathroom lights had a decidedly flickering theme going on). We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night and I do feel it was rather overpriced for what we got. That said, the catering for the wedding was excellent. The hotel has some astonishingly good staff - particular thanks to Harry the bartender for the wedding who was a shining credit to Hollin House. The hotel was easy to find and is in a beautiful location. If I was able to, I would increase the score - but honesty dictates the importance of reflecting the hotel overall. In terms of staff and service, it was faultless. In terms of value for money, I felt it was not an equal equation.

We stayed here for a friend's birthday and we had a fantastic time! 7 of us shared the Garden Party Suite and it was amazing. Beautifully decorated, with three showers, bathrooms separate from the room, kitchen, wardrobe space for 8, complementary slippers plus towels and robes! Two hot tubs were pre heated when we arrived, which were delightful and the outdoor area was lovely and well maintained. tea and coffee available, as well as some biscuits and a mini fridge to store our own goodies. the room was quiet and we all slept very well. we had afternoon tea in the restaurant which was delightful, staff were attentive despite the bar being very busy before and after a wedding taking place at the hotel. We had a 2 course dinner at the hotel as well, which was delicious. Breakfast was standard buffet style, with hot and cold options. Could have been more topped up but was very busy at the time we were there due to the wedding guest staying at the hotel. overall a fantastic hotel and we would absolutely book again, couldn't do enough for us. we had a brilliant time.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night. The hotel is in a lovely surrounding and is very picturesque. The staff are very nice and welcoming. It's a little run down but with a hotel of that age and size we expected it, however we didn't expect the cleanliness issues. There were brown marks in the bathroom (possible fake tan) this was also on the free toiletries. There were also several stains all over the duvet. Didn't realise this until the morning which was a bit awful. Cooked breakfast was OK. Cooked to order and fresh. Continental was very basic. Checked out without any issues.

Set among peaceful fields but not isolated. The bedroom was comfortable and the bar and restaurant were very nice with good food and drink. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Unusually, couldn’t put food and drinks on the room but it didn’t spoil things.
