Best Hotels near Mackinac Island State Park, Mackinac County

The beautiful hotels don’t even have a bottle of water. The Hilton only had one bottle of mineral water a day for the first two days. You don’t have this at all. You can buy a bottle for $3. If you book for two days, the cleaning on the second day is very sloppy , I almost cleaned up the sheets, the bathroom was not cleaned at all, the external environment is really good, the hotel is too expensive, I suggest you stay in Mackinaw City, and then come directly by boat to play, you can swim with a swimsuit, the water is very clear, and you can play on the island It's all money, just prepare your wallet 😁.

On our anniversary trip to Mackinac Island we stayed at Harbour View Inn. Harbour View Inn is at the quiet end of Main St. and next door to St. Anne's Catholic Church. We stayed in room 3310 in the Guest House. That's the big structure at the back of the property. Room 3310 is a Deluxe Suite 2 Queen/Sofa. The price was just over $500 per night including taxes. The room was very spacious and had a nice water view from a shared balcony. We never had a problem with other guests on the balcony. The grounds are fabulous. Lush flowers are everywhere. They have inexpensive bikes for rent but we didn't ride. There was a Harbor View Inn porter who met us at the ferry dock upon arrival and beat us back to the inn with our bags. On our departure, he took our bags back to the ferry dock. Each morning a continental breakfast was offered in the main building. They have paper plates and plasticware if you want to take it back to your room. Bill's Grill is in front of the main building near the street with grilled food. We ate lunch there one day and it was good. In summary, the location was perfect. The view was incredible. The staff was great. But… The fit and finish sorely failed to make it up to my expectations of a $500 per night hotel. Sink bowl is cracked. Fastener is missing from the light fixture in the bathroom. Paint is peeling on the mirror frame. Caulk is peeling on backsplash. Cabinet doors don't close. Tub/shower is a fiberglass drop-in. Towel bars don't match. Sliding glass door has the lock mechanism removed. Simple hook closure. Sliding screen door on the balcony fell off. The room next door did the same. Supplied iron in the room had an odd plug that wouldn't plug into the wall. A/C is LOUD. Housekeeping didn't always remove dirty bath cloths. I spoke to Michelle at the front desk after our second night and asked for an adjustment. That afternoon maintenance came by and worked on the A/C and cabinet doors. The A/C was much better but the cabinet doors needed much more work. When I got my bill, a $235 credit had been applied lowering the average cost to $434 per night. That was still way too high for the quality of the facility. I wouldn't stay there again.

We have been going to this hotel since 2016 and it has just gone down hill!! We had the King bed, studio suite, lake view, hot tub room. First thing we notice was there was no chair for sitting in, as it states it will have. Which means you either sit on the bed to watch TV, which is not very comfortable for someone with back issues, or you take the chair without arms from the desk to sit in. When we asked at the front desk about it they said ”you must have the room that had a chair break”. We asked if they could bring one from another room and they said ”they didn't have any, they had one in the storage shed but the maintenance man needs to put it together”. We ended up bringing in a plastic chair from our patio area. Later, as we're trying to watch a movie, we hear a horrible noice through the wall for several minutes and then it got louder!! We called the front desk and Amanda (I believe was her name) said she'd be down, 20 minutes later she shows up and says ”that's terrible, I don't know what it would be” and then proceeded to say ”what do you want me to do about it?” Really, we're paying good money for this room and we'd like to be able to enjoy it and sleep that night. She said she didn't have any other rooms except the ones upstairs that have wet carpet! She was VERY RUDE and said she'd contact her manager. Well an hour later we don't hear back and the noise is still going on, so we go down to the front desk to see what they were willing to do and again she was very rude and said she notified the manager but hadn't heard back. When we told her that the noise we had in our room was unacceptable, she continued to be extremely rude to us. We told her we wanted to cancel our room for the next night (because we weren't going to stay someplace where we couldn't sleep for 2 nights) and she told us ”you can't do that, it's on the paper you signed”! We told her that we wanted to talk to the manager that night. We never heard from the manager and the next morning when we tried to talk with the manager she wasn't any better. Said she didn't know what we expected her to do. We said we wanted a room we could actually sleep in without a noise so loud we could hear our TV over it and kept us awake. She and the other lady behind the desk goes on to say ”we're booked all summer and never have a complaint.” That is very hard to believe because this noise was extremely loud and one of their own employees witnessed it! They were not willing to cancel & refund our money for the 2nd night and weren't willing to refund any of our money for the first night for the inconvenience. We weren't willing to forfeit our money, for them to just rent the room to someone else and make double the money on it! We were finally able to get them to switch our room for another room, if we would move all our things out by check out time and then come back later. We've gone to the Mackinaw City/Mackinaw Island area for 5 of the last 6 years. We always try to go off-season, so we ended up at this HI Express in St. Ignace this year. First time at this location. We generally don't think much of the hotels in this part of Michigan. They are solely ”tourist” properties, and they seem to be poorly maintained by the hotel owners. Nevertheless they charge over-premium prices and should be doing better. Booked a lake-facing balcony room. On arrival however the hotel switched us to a ground floor ”pet friendly” room I travel with a certified service dog, NOT a pet. This is an ADA violation. Much of the room was filthy. Carpets worn and huge stains on the (from the ”unfriendly pets” previous??). The sofa smelled and couldn't be used. Bathroom was clean and water pressure and hot water adequate. Security lock on the door broken, and the exterior balcony door lock was faulty as well. HI Express breakfast was done very well, with all the proper items available and all the equipment working properly. Hotel would not address the issues with our room claiming they were ”fully booked”. We would not stay here again.

Breakfast is not the same, bread, juice, boiled eggs, etc., scrambled eggs should be added with 5 knives, but the steak and crab legs for dinner are good! The room is old, ok!
