We took the bus at the airport (#203 for 5 Euros per person for a 30 minute ride) to the Atocha Train station. From there, it was about a 20-30 minute walk uphill to the hotel with 5 or 6 steps up to the hotel. Marta, at the front desk, was very warm and welcoming. She offered us a coffee when she heard we did not get much sleep on the plane and our room would not be ready (we arrived around 8 am) and offered us a map with what to see and where to go for tapas. We left our bags with the the nice bellhop while we went out to explore the town until our room was ready. They sent us a text us when it was ready. The room was a lovely studio with a wall separating the bedroom and the dining table and chairs with a large bar across one wall when you walk in, and a nice size bathroom with a make-up mirror. The coffee maker in the room was very much appreciated as well. As Hilton Gold members, the hand-written welcome letter, welcome chocolate, two bottles of water, and free breakfast buffet the next day was wonderful. The breakfast was a great Spanish-American buffet with ham and cheddar omelet, potato omelet like my Spanish friend makes, black beans, Iberian bacon, Salchidas sausage, and vegetables (red cabbage, broccoli, carrots) with cakes, fresh orange slices, apple compote, cheese, cold cuts, and honey with the honeycomb still attached, and cappuccinos and fresh orange juice. We also ate in the restaurant for dinner and had a very dinner. The Ham and Cheese croquettes were fluffy on the inside with a light crunch outside - just heavenly. The tomato and walnut salad was huge. the Roasted beef on one shank was more than enough for two - three even and was moist and tender. The hotel is in walking distance to several attractions, about 16 min or 0.7 miles to Plaza Mayor and 25 min or 1.1 miles to the Royal Palace along with some other restaurants closer. We had a very nice stay at this Hilton property, and the front desk staff and bellhop with a beard were very friendly and gracious, and the breakfast and dinner restaurant staff made us feel welcomed.
