Sir John's Bungalow

We were based at Sir John's bungalow which gave us easy access to almost all locations to explore Matale. The breathtaking view from the bungalow with the warm hospitality extended by the staff and delicious food made our stay so comfortable and memorable.

It is a very scenic hotel with misty conditions. If you're planning to visit Riverston, you need to stay here and head out early in the morning. Tasty food and very helpful staff.Make sure to reserve early. You will experience our traditional house. Very close to Riverston as well.

We had a fantastic couple of days at Sir John's Bungalow. The staff were genuinely welcoming, our room had everything we needed and the views were gorgeous. The food was delicious and the setting was lovely - breakfast on the veranda with sweeping views and dinner in the candle-lit dining room. A really great stay - would highly recommend.

We went to Sir John's bungalow, Riverston, with a travelling group. I would not recommend it to anyone. The entrance from the car park is in the dark with steps going down on a wet corridor. There were plenty of leeches there. The worst experience was that the bedsheets were all wet so we had to sleep without any. Apparently this was due to the mist in the air but we are not convinced. Also there is no electricity at night, so if you need to get up for anything you have to fumble in the dark. The staff were very obliging and pleasant. The food was average but plentiful. The one thing in its favour is the stunning views of the mountain ranges.

Sir. John's occupies one of the best sites in Riverston. The surroundings are a part of the nature reserve and the environment there is soo pristine and clean. The staff was very nice and extremely prompt in their service. They often went out of their way to help our requests. They dished out some great delicacies, both Sri Lankan and Western. We felt pampered in their bungalow.

This is the second time we have been there. While not much has changed the service has certainly improved. The room were clean and cozy! The food was exceptional, considering they are are 30kms away from town they had everything we needed. Cudos to Nadeera and the crew! Awesome !

I went with a group on a birding tour to the Knuckles Mountains and stayed for 3 nights at Sir John's Bungalow. We were given a warm welcome on our arrival by the hotel management and they looked after us very well during our stay. The Chef's food was really good and more than what we expected. The rooms were clean with blankets for the chilly nights.

This place needs to be better highlighted. An awesome experience that was not seen even in the best hotels. The staff members at the property, Yasintha and Shirantha are very professional and extremely helpful. The place as well as the setting has a magical vibe. Reservations can be done through 3rd parties, in our case we placed our reservation by contacting the property (Ms. Dilki) and paying in advance. Mobile network connections are limited near the property so make sure you have an offline map connection. The property has a quite good wifi connection with its only downside being the limited availability inside the rooms. There is no main grid (220 v) power supply but the power through the solar cells are quite enough for all the uses. Hot water is available for bathing. The experience is unique and extraordinary compared to other places. The morning as well as evening views should not be missed. Top notch! Do not miss it!

Sir Johns Bungalow is our ‘go-to place’ in Riverston. The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing. They all went above and beyond to ensure we feel quite at home. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looking forward to visiting again.
