Hotels Near Urufu Shrine in Matsue

I stayed at this Dormy hotel in April 2019, and chose it again for a two-night stay because it'd worked out well, and again, I wasn't disappointed. I think I may have even been in the same room! The quarters were plain and compact, and with no view to speak of, but well-designed and equipped, especially for working on the laptop - great desk space, easily accessible power sockets and good wi-fi. I loved having the amplifier, something most hotels don't include. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a mini tv (and welcoming duck), with a larger one in the bedroom. The complimentary inclusions were appreciated - for example, ramen in the evenings, bath salts (bonus), and peach jelly in the fridge. The reasonably-priced breakfast was good, and featured perfect tempura! The hotel is near the JR station and a 10 minute walk to Lake Shinji, 15-20 to the castle. Staff were efficient with tasks such as forwarding luggage. Overall, excellent value!

　　Like other Toyoko Inn hotels, it is advantageous to be close to the station, but because it is not a big hotel, it is likely to be full, so I recommend early reservation. Breakfast comes with, but the breakfast venue is not so large, so it is crowded in the morning.

It is convenient in front of the station, but you have to cross the road through the underground road, which may be inconvenient for people with large luggage. The staff felt good. The size of the room was not enough for two people to stay, but it felt like there was no shortage. There were multiple outlets at the bedside ＆ There was no problem with charging. However, there are few storage parts, so it may be a little inconvenient if you stay consecutive nights. It is difficult to put large PET bottles such as 1.5L in the refrigerator, but if you diagonally put them in. I thought it would be okay to stay if I had a chance to visit again.

We stayed at the New Urban Hotel for 2 weeks in October while my husband was in Matsue for business. It is a lovely hotel in an excellent location in the city. I can’t say enough positive comments about the staff, and especially would like to mention Keiko Ueda. She goes above and beyond in making guests feel welcome and she is so helpful. Her English is very good and she repeatedly asked for feedback, did we need anything, was there anything in particular we wanted or wanted to do. All of the other staff are just as helpful, albeit many don’t speak English…however with the help of Google Translate, we had no difficulty. In staying there for 2 weeks, we were a familiar face and we’re always greeted warmly whenever we were in the lobby area. The location is excellent, about a 10 minute walk to Matsue Castle, about 15 minute walk to the Kyomise shopping district, and about 25 minute walk to the JR Matsue Transit Station, which has a wonderful Visitors Center with English speaking staff.. The hotel is directly across from Lake Shinji, and our room faced the lake providing lovely views. There is a walking path along the lake that is very nice and it is a short walk to Sunset Park to view the famous sunsets. Since my husband was working during the days, I was on my own to explore. I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe walking around this beautiful city. The city’s population is about 200K, and Matsue is known for still being “authentic Japan.” There is an on-site onsen at the hotel, which is very nice. There are separate baths for males and females and the hours are quite convenient. The lobby of the hotel has a section of travel amenities that are free to quests. Additionally, the hotel stocks a number of other items for borrowing that you might need, such as iron and ironing board. There is a laundry facility and a convenience store attached to the hotel. My only negative comment would be that the on-site buffet at the restaurant is the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But there are many wonderful restaurants in Matsue if you need more variety. If your travels find you going to Matsue, consider staying at the New Urban Hotel, you won’t be disappointed with the everything the hotel offers as well as the location.

It was unusual for me to take off my shoes before entering, but I was glad that it was clean. It felt especially good indoors. All breakfasts were delicious and satisfying. It is not a walking distance from the nearest Yasugi station where the limited Express stops. It takes a little 3000 yen for a taxi. There is a transfer bus for the museum from the station. If you tell the inn name, you can put it in front of the museum for free. However, the last flight in the evening is quite early time zone. I took the last flight. Let's check it on the homepage in advance. There is no convenience store by the inn. Shopping at the convenience store is a little walk from Yasugi station. It is a souvenir shop in front of the museum, and you can buy a little food and drink including alcohol. However, it closes to the closing time of the museum. If the transfer bus to the inn is the last flight, let's shop without going to the inn. The inn store was about the extent that souvenirs were lined up in the corridor next to the front desk. The vending machine was a conscience price.

I made a reservation because it is a new hotel with a large communal bath. A few minutes walk from the station, the building is beautiful in a convenient location. It is said that the large communal bath that I was looking forward to can be used until 1 pm, but when I went to 12 pm, water was flowing into the bathtub and it became quite lukewarm. I told the front desk that it was a circulation type, so I'm sorry. I went to bed after warming my body in the sauna. It's a little disappointing that there is a sauna but no water bath.
