Nightcap at Ferntree Gully Hotel Motel

30 + 31/10/2019 Room 9. Yes would stay here again. But some things you need to be aware of. There is no breakfast facility on site and no toaster or microwave. There is a basic breakfast pack available FREE IF YOU BOOK DIRECT. The hotel bistro (separate building) is excellent, perhaps the best quality smorgasbord food I have ever experienced, and a discount is applied for resident guests. Room was large with good ensuite, good shower. Comfortable beds. Beds are on casters so can be risky, We have found this in some other places and as an ex business owner I fail to understand why the hospitality industry has not realized how they are leaving themselves liable to an injury claim - imagine the outcome if an older frail person goes to sit on the bed and it moves away and they fall. The room and linen were clean, the only fault I could find was the ensuite window frame needed a clean.
Nightcap at York on Lilydale

Unknowingly we were given an upstairs room and were informed there was not an elevator. The stairs were steep and the walkways were very uneven, causing difficulty in reaching the room. At night the area was not well litl The room was fairly large, but there was no door on the wardrobe, no clock, no radio and no telephone. Not even a biscuit to have with our coffee. We were expected to use a QR code to familiarize ourselves with the amenities. The bed was comfortable. The shower was over a spa, and required dexterity to get into the spa. I have no idea how one would get out. As we are both very senior citizens it was therefore impossible for us to have a shower. The room was very uninspiring and dull, and the bathroom looked dated, although the taps were modern!! For the cost of $241.20 we were very disappointed in the hotel and the lack of amenities. All the staff members we encountered were very friendly and efficient.
Dorset Gardens Hotel

Had a catch up lunch with my kids and father - 3 generations who all loved the meals here. The usual favourites on the menu - chicken parma, flat head tails, lamb shanks (which were huge), I had the saginyaki and my youngest had the arachini balls. All meals were generous sizes. The apple crumble as usual was delicious. The restaurant is large and there is plenty of space. Come here before Christmas and you'll find the place very busy. Wheelchair friendly. Dietaries catered for. Portion sizes good. Plenty of parking. Seniors meals are available with great value for money. Staff were excellent and despite being busy, got our orders correct and to us in a timely manner. Thank you.

I will use it next time. Very good location. The staff was friendly. There is no problem with the size of the room.
Yarra Valley Motel

We can not recommend this motel for a stay of more than 1 night. We had frequently stayed in the Yarra Valley Motel prior to covid19 and were very satisfied. When we booked we didn't realise the motel was under new management. We booked for 1 week and payed 169 dollars per night. The room service happened once in that week.I requested the bins be emptied daily a d fresh towels daily as the weather was cold and wet and the towels didn't dry.The bins were emptied 3 times and a banana peel removed but bin not emptied on the 4th day.Fresh towels were supplied 3 times. No vacuuming or bed making or linen changes occurred during the week. There was no net curtain over the window so for privacy the blind had to be drawn and light on.There was no drawer storage or bedside lamps. 4 coat hangers were provided in the wardrobe. The bed was comfortable and the reverse cycle air conditioner adequate. The shower and bathroom did not seem to be cleaned but the basin was wiped down 3 times. We were disappointed and do not have the same experience.
Econo Lodge Lilydale

Our stay was OK in as much as the bed and bathroom were acceptable for the price. - when the price is $125 or so. The trick is while they advertise $125 a night, Friday and Saturday night the prices goes off the scale. So read your proposal, even if you're in a rush. There are lot better rooms around at around $200 or more. We stayed 4 nights and extended another - a Saturday. (Family matters nearby). The gentleman said $120 for the extra night but when I got my statement it was $189! It was then I realised I was charged that for Friday too. Re-educated in touch and go and not bothering with the receipt. Sure these prices are not exorbitant in this day an age - for a reasonable establishment. While in the room the basics were reasonable, the room had a toaster and microwave but no bread plates or cutlery, only small bowls. Asked at reception and was give some disposable cutlery and pasta bowls . Great for toast! Apparently people keep stealing them or breaking them. So charge them and have something reasonable for reasonable people! The door didn't latch either without a heft with your shoulder and then caught only by millimetres. The chain was on and the chairs in place, don't worry. The room was only serviced once during our stay after we asked. The garbage truck came at 4.00Am or so and emptied multiple skips just nearby (on the premises) with all the beeping and backing, hydraulic whining, and diesel roaring you'd probably accept at $120 odd dollars a night, but really? My partner was ready to walk in the first five minutes with her usual abuse of my miserliness. As you might have guessed, the pricing issue is what really gets up nose. The rest you probably expect and accept for a cheaper deal. But next time we're near Lilydale we may well pay $189 but we'll be looking for $189 value.
