Thankfully, as the guest speaker of an International conference, I didn't have to pay for this embassment of a hotel. The room was supposedly one of its largest(?) and yet it only had a double bed and a chair. Though there was plenty of space for it, there was no comfortable furniture upon which to sit, relax, and talk. My wife had to use the single chair to put her open luggage on, I put mine on the closet floor. Upon late checkin because of flight delay, there was no mention of breakfast (7:00- 9:30) by the "unwelcoming" desk clerk. Thus, we missed it by 20 minutes when we finally came down stairs. This was on average the worst host behavior of any place at which we've stayed in decades. The chairs of the International conference profusely apologized for how dreadful it was. We felt terrible for them. We paid an extra 20 euros per hour for a two hour extended checkout - 40 euros! When we were 15 minutes further delayed by the conference, all our possessions had been moved to the lobby without our being able to conduct a final check of the room. We are now discovering where we are staying in Verona, some things are missing which we evidently hadn't finished packing. Nothing of value, but just emblematic of the "eviction" without notice attitude of this terrible hotel. This is the worst hotel experience ever! Looking at the review ratings, they are largely quite bad. It is hard to imagine anyone who did give even a remotely decent review having ever had quality experiences in hotel travel. There must be a minimum attention given to quality no matter what level of price range the hotel's rooms are set at. Meanwhile, decency in service is priceless. In the hospitality business, it must be the bare minimum!!
