I stayed at GW. Sarugakyo Onsen is a few hundred meters on the mountain side from the street and ryokan town, and the slope is quite steep, so you should think that it is a bit difficult to go down on foot. On the contrary, it is an environment where you will not be bothered by the sound of cars or the voices of other tourists. The building is old, but it has a unique smell of an old reinforced concrete hotel. The cleaning is perfect, and the rooms, toilets, and the dining hall are very clean. The futon was already set in the room when I arrived, probably due to the lack of manpower. (It's a large room, and the table and legless chairs can be used.) It's a solidly built room where you don't have to worry about noise from the next room. The refrigerator is shared. The hot spring is said to be a circulation filtration, but there is also an open-air bath with calcium carbonate and Yunohana. The indoor bath is hot and the open-air bath is lukewarm, but I wonder if it depends on the climate. On that day, it was sunny enough in short sleeves during the day, but it got a little chilly in the mornings and evenings. The food is very delicious with a menu that takes a lot of effort. Homemade rice was very popular with my family because the grains stood up and it was delicious. I especially liked the cherry salmon carpaccio and teriyaki made with yuzu jam. It's a pity that there was no explanation of the menu that came with it. It may be unavoidable because there were few people and it seemed to be busy. I'm glad that you can bring your own trash back to your room as long as you bring it home. (The nearest convenience store (Lawson) is on the shores of Lake Akaya on the way back to Tokyo along the Mikuni Highway.)
