Castaways Resort & Spa on Mission Beach

We loved our stay at Castaways resort at Mission Beach. The room was a beachfront room with beautiful views. It was spacious, comfortable and clean. We booked through Trip.com at short notice but they made it easy to book.

Great location with very friendly staff and a spacious room. Food not great but doesn't matter when a few steps from the most gorgeous beach. Mission beach the most laid back place we stayed on our travels.

The bar and restaurant were closed because of maintenance. Noisey Renovations were taking place. When I said that I wouldn’t have stayed if I knew, they said that they had notified customers of the disruptions. When they checked they apologised that I hadn’t received this info. No compensation offered. Mark

Very tired and a bit grubby

Mission beaches beach is beautiful. Think long flat beach to walk on forever as far as the eye can see and then some But there is a lack of quality hotels in Mission Beach. We stayed at Castaways . It looked really nice from the photos and it looked really nice when we walked in. Emma the receptionist was excellent . She is an asset to Castaways That’s where the good ends. This ain’t anything like port Douglas or Palm Cove. You won’t find any luxury here . Trust me when I say looks are deceiving . From the outside it looks impressive. The pool area is very nice But….. The room is crap. I mean it’s beyond dated. The roof in the bathroom has either water damage or mould. If you leave the door closed it stinks of dampness. I won’t go on and on and will let the photos speak for themselves. I wish TripAdvisor let me do videos because that would be so much more revealing . I also need to mention how unsafe the bath / shower is. It’s quite a step up and into the bath with no grips to stop you slipping . There was no room service , not even to restock coffee etc Let’s just say we were REALLY disappointed with our stay here We also tried the new buffet they are doing . It cost us $99 each. Bloody hell it was terrible !!!!! Just don’t do it. How on earth they charged $99 for that is beyond me And then two nights into our stay everyone received an email advising the bar and restaurant would be closed for two days for unforeseen circumstances . So no breakfasts , no cocktails by the pool. Nothing ! At Easter peak period If you really really really want to stay at Mission Beach , Honestly my tip would be find a house to stay in on the beach or an apar**ent Please keep in mind Mission Beach is NOTHING like Port Douglas or Palm cove or trinity beach. This place is NOT a place to stay if you are looking for a hint of luxury . Sure it has beautiful beaches which are less populated and you can sky dive onto the beach but Mission Beach as a whole is mainly nomads passing through in caravans (the caravan park is very impressive!) or backpackers If you want to stay in this vicinity with luxury go to the Elandra at south mission . It’s amazing

A sad property with nothing other than location to praise. Well past its use by date, needs a thorough renovation! Booked last year and a week prior to arrival recieved a text saying NO restaurant or Bar but the restaurant would be open for breakfast only. Arrived at breakfast and was given a menu with the comment you have a choice of this, this or this! Three items only. No advance warning. Most staff helpful but the caucasian older women this morning was horrible with no concept of customer service. Full of excuses including that I was informed about the closures and that I should bring my own shampoo and conditioner if I didn't like 'conditioning shampoo'! No alleged four star property provides the poor alternative of shampoo/conditioner in one! Who is making these cost cutting decisions on a property that is meant to be 4 star. Same person told me kitchen closed due to renovations. On checkin was told it was due to no chef. Someone is lying to the guests! Given a room without balcony and outdoor furniture as inside? How ridiculous and if your property is almost empty ( and it is) upgrade the few guest you have to compensate for the mess and lack of service. I asked for Ice yesterday and was told they would have to see if they can find any. No warning of the issues, no warnings on the website as I tried to book a room for tomorrow and they would take my money with nothing to say that the resort is really closed! Stinger net not in operation yet no warning for that either. The property could easily be 5 stars but leaves a lot to be desired. Could simply improve with decent management and people with some idea of how to run a prestige property. Get rid of the moudly carpet on the walkways for a start.

Disappointed with food and beverage service, due to maintenance the kitchen was closed, however they told os that there was breakfast available. At the breakfast they did not had the choice that was presented on card. Rather unprofessional. The room was nice clean and spacious, however a little lack of maintenance, the pool area was fine but the pool was not looking clean, and could be better maintained, only 6 beach chairs around pool (due to limited space) The staff was nice and friendly and did their best to serve customers.
