Makini Bush Camp, Yala

The place is very rustic and off the beaten track. The service was super and the safari trips were outstanding. Food very good. Would highly recommend if you want a camping type experience. Rooms are air-conditioned. Tea and drinking water provided in the rooms. WiFi available and while not great…better than nothing. The team is passionate about what they do and look to offer a wonderful experience.

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon. It could not be better and was best part of our trip. The whole experience was amazing. We had a private meal for two in the tree tops by candle light. Life could not get better! I would highly recommend to anyone.

Wow! The 20-minute off-road jeep drive to reach the camp was very definitely worth it. A brilliant setting and a real ‘glamping’ experience. The service was exceptional, and the food was the best we had during our two weeks in Sri Lanka - including an evening meal under the stars. We did an afternoon and a morning safari, plus an early morning bush walk. A real highlight of our holiday. Congratulations to the whole team at Makini.

Very dedicated and passionate team who will do anything to make your stay a pleasure ! Delicious food, great tents. Everything was great despite the rain. I highly recommend doing the safari organised by the hotel, very comfortable and great expertise.

Makini Bush Camp is a true haven for nature lovers. Set amidst the stunning natural beauty of Yala National Park, the camp offers a serene and rejuvenating experience. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, spacious and feature awesome plunge pools. The Safari tour of Yala National Park and the campfire dining experience were a highlight for me. The staff is exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall stay. The camp also has easy access to nature trails in the area which are well worth doing during your stay. Overall, it's a paradise for those seeking a peaceful escape and a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. I will definitely be back in the future.

Enjoyed our stay at makini bushcamp. Chamith and his team did very well in making our stay a very good one. We really enjoyed the bush walk and the guided safari trip. kids enjoyed every bit of the stay. They even helped out to set up a drip irrigation system for the plantation. Food was tasty and was very authentic southern food. Would definitely recommend it and want to return back soon.

We had a great experience with Makini. The tents are exactly as pictured, large and luxurious, and the bathroom/plunge pool outside is lovely and thoughtful. The food is also great, very true to its southern Sri Lankan surroundings. We especially enjoyed having drinks and a BBQ night around the campfire lit by lanterns. And the staff was great and always thoughtful and helpful with anything we needed. But what really sets this property apart for us was the owners- they are wildlife photographers and completely passionate about Yala and its wildlife and running the camp in a sustainable way. It is contagious. Our safaris and bush walk were full of memorable experiences and it was great to learn about all of the flora and fauna that we encountered. We highly recommend Makini. You will not regret booking with them and supporting their sustainable approach to visiting Yala.

Visited Makini last week and spent 30th Dec to 1st Jan at Makini Bush Camp. Luxury tents with plunge pool - comfortable and exceeded our expectation considering this is inside the jungle. Team was superb, very accommodating, and thoughtful. stay was personalised, even included origami session for kids. Food was authentic local cuisine, cooked by a local lady [not a fancy chef], simple and tasty every dish they served. Most of them were sourced locally and organic. Bush walk and guided safari were excellent, and kids enjoyed both very much, and shared lot about nature, animals with us. 31st night was special BBQ under the stars, superb atmosphere and delicious food served by ever courteous and friendly team. Great experience and unforgettable. 1st January, traditional lighting of oil lamp and traditional breakfast with Kiribath was so touching. Thank you Chamith and team for unique and memorable experience. Wish you guys all the very best and would recommend to anyone.

Unforgettable experience. Everything we wanted in a safari bush camp experience. Amazing service, accommodations, food, and best of all safari experience. With the help of our great guide Devaka we saw all of the Sri Lanka big 5 and much more. Also did 2 bush hikes around camp that had some breathtaking views. Can’t say enough wonderful things about Devaka as he went above and beyond in every aspect to make our experience memorable. The staff even went as far as to throw us a 4th of July party . Really can’t recommend this place enough. You won’t be sorry for choosing Makini
