2-Star Hotels in Montepulciano

We stayed for 2 nights in this hidden gem of a hotel. The owners are so welcoming and helpful (particularly useful when trying to find the hotel as we parked outside the walls and walked up to find it and Vittoria drove us down to collect our car so we could follow her back up) the free parking is great but the roads are narrow and windy ! The hotel is on many levels, with 2 lovely terraces (one for breakfast) and an ”up door” and a ”down door” giving access to different parts of the town. Our room was very comfortable with grand Venetian style fittings, a little lounge and a quirky narrow bathroom. There is no air con but a ceiling fan did the trick for us. The best thing about this hotel was the warm and generous welcome from the hosts Roberto and Vittoria. They insisted we should treat their hotel as our own house (mia casa e tua casa!) they were friendly, kind and helpful and Roberto was very entertaining especially when serving you up a delightful breakfast of croissant, cakes, yogurts, fruit, cold meats and cheeses and fruit juice and coffee in his own special style - I would recommend this hotel to all !

My boyfriend and I visited this hotel for our first night in Italy, and we could not have asked for a better way to start the trip. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the room was very comfortable, and the food was incredible. It was a short drive to Montepulciano and Pienza so we were able to explore the two towns without expending too much energy. The area was relatively quiet, so we were not disturbed by loud noises. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Tuscany! It’s perfectly enjoyable for individuals, couples, families, or a group of friends.

Agriturismo Merigge turned out to be the perfect place for us to spend some relaxing days in Toscana. It is well located with only a short drive to both Montepulciano as well as Pienza. Also, it is not far from Siena and therefore the perfect location to discover the Toscana. Our stay was very relaxing, the grounds, pool and sorroundings as well as the room are very well kept, traditional but yet modern. There is a large pool with sun until the evening. The owners Tiziana and Raffaele are great hosts and provided us with helpful tips to explore Toscana and cooked amazing dinners for us every night as the restaurants were closed in the evenings. All in all it was an exceptional stay and we are already looking forward to our next stay we booked in spring.

Seguendo il nostro amico Antonello abbiamo partecipato ad una gita di due giorni il sei e il sette u.s. visitando alcune località del Senese. Abbiamo visitato l’abazia di San Galgano,Monteriggioni Montepulciano e Bagno Vignioni. Le località proposte si sono rivelate ricche di piacevoli sorprese dal punto di vista artistico-culturale e gastronomico. Vorrei fare però una particolare segnalazione per l’hotel Grifo di Montepulciano Tutti abbiamo apprezzato la premura degli operatori che ci hanno atteso pazientemente molto tempo dopo l’arrivo previsto per un banale incidente al vettore, ma la cena e la prima colazione del giorno successivo sono stati un ulteriore dimostrazione della professionalità e della competenza degli addetti. Mi basti solo dire che è un caffè ed una pastiera così li trovati solo a Napoli. Che dire di più! Rosanna Petrangeli e Cetti Grande.

It was snowing heavily in Montepulciano the evening I arrived. The taxi from Chiusi station cost 50 Euros cash. The taxi could not reach the front door but my host sent numerous messages to guide me as I walked the last half kilometer. There is no lift in the building and up four sets of stairs with a heavy bag was an effort! We did a remote check-in. I had the Rossa suite which meant a climb of another set of narrow wooden stairs to the very top floor. This room had a stunning view across the rooftops and valley. That view alone was worth the price paid! The residence did not have any other guests and was very quiet. There are no kitchen facilities but there is a kettle, a microwave oven and small refrigerator in the dining room. All of the furniture (including the bed) probably dates back to mid 20th century. I did not see an electric blanket and I thought it was needed. The air conditioner (heater) in the room seemed to work on a timer and was off for several hours in the daytime. Because it was January, a lot of restaurants nearby were closed for several weeks. I discovered other open restaurants further down the main street on the following nights. Tip: The large door to the residence (3 sets of stairs up) was tricky to open. There are instructions on how to solve this problem posted near the door.
