Very British style, the room is very well decorated, and there is a radio📻! You can have an open-air dinner in the courtyard. The breakfast is rich and delicious! The check-in service is also very thoughtful, and you can store your luggage. It takes a few minutes to walk to the bus station and the train station. You can hike nearby, and the parks and country roads are all refreshing! In short, I highly recommend it!

We stayed here for 2 nights and for the price we paid we expected much better. The room whilst spacious was in need of updating, the bathroom needed a deep clean, the mattress needed replacing and it was generally tired! There were lights hanging out, stains on the pictures and holes in the wall above the bed that had clearly been filled and painted over but done badly! The hot water in the sink was not hot for long and towards the end of the day it had clearly run out for the block we were in so ran cold! It was warm again in the morning. Then on the first night at about 11pm there was noise outside and manhole covers were being removed - one of the members of staff was clearly trying to unblock the drains and the smell was awful!! We mentioned all this to the reception staff who were very unresponsive and no apology was offered! Breakfast was poor and the service was equally bad - we sat down and ordered coffee and had just got some cereal. We were asked what hot breakfast we wanted so ordered and were highly surprised to find it was brought to the table immediately without any time to finish our cereal! Serving staff need training to ensure that they don’t clear plates until all people on the table have finished eating! All in all a hotel that needs a bit of an upgrade but mainly needs some better customer service! Wouldn’t stay here again.

My wife and I stayed for one night earlier on this week while visiting a friend and scouting the area for a possible relocation from London. It is based on a 17th century manor house with more recent additions which blend in well with the main building. I was welcomed by a lovely South African lady and a Hungarian gentleman who were both very pleasant and helpful The bedroom was on the second floor overlooking the High Street. The decor was pleasant and fit in with the general ambience of the hotel and it had a very nice bathroom attached. My only comments are that the room was quite hot even with the heating turned off and the windows open. The othre which I alsways check is the availability and access of power points/USB sockets. The room fell down here as there were no sockets or USB ports by the beds. Breakfast was excellent and overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Parkiong is either in the High Street which is free or in the car park which is a short walk throught the grounds

A Lovely hotel with some beautiful traditional British features. Very polite and efficient staff. The rooms and facilities were clean and comfy but could use just a touch of flair and a few fancy extras. Overall a lovely stay though. Delicious fresh food and an amazing curry night. VERY good value for money with a great selection of traditional Sri Lankan dishes. Highly recommended. A good selection of bar drinks in a cozy traditional pub setting. Library/ lounge for relaxing. Outside terrace lovely in the sun and comfy and peaceful restaurant for meals and breakfast.

We received a very friendly and efficient welcome from Richard, who helped us carry our cases up to our room on the first floor – I believe it is classified as an ‘Amazing Great Room’. Big king+ size bed and lovely large walk-in shower; there’s also a stylish claw-foot bath for those who can get in and out of such things, which no longer includes me. The bathroom is large and well appointed, but there’s a big crack in the sink. I loved the really big waste paper basket. A handrail to the upper level of the staircase would be very welcome. Hospitality tray; good teas, and good to see fresh milk in fridge. But you could perhaps re-think the Bronte biscuits, which I find over-sweet. Dinner was excellent; we both had the lamb with aubergines, anchovies etc, and thought it was the best lamb we’d ever had. Then I had the hazelnut choux pastry, which was superb. Breakfast was fine too; the selection of fruit and cereals is well presented and varied, with the apricots in orange syrup a stand-out. I had a selection from the cooked breakfast, and my husband had eggs benedict. The sausage was particularly tasty. The hotel was very busy on the Friday evening, but it didn't significantly affect the service for dinner. I had a champagne cocktail beforehand; times being what they are, it was actually English sparkling wine, but it was really good and I was practically pie-eyed before we moved into the restaurant – haven't had one for ages, but it was so worth it. I had smoked trout to start with some sort of pickled cucumber, and my husband had tortellini with mushroom sauce; then we both had pork two ways, very easy to eat and excellent. (Not sure what the singular of tortellini is, but there was just one large one.) I should also add that the hot mini-loaf that comes at the start of the meal is also very agreeable. There is a real sense of occasion when dining here, which is the mark of a good hotel. The staff are personable and enthusiastic and were very welcoming when we arrived in the restaurant. It all made for an enjoyable break.
