Mount Lavinia Hotel

Please consider twice when booking this hotel. Please avoid this hotel for god sake. This is second time staying this hotel after 8 years ago. This hotel has gone really bad condition and services in big time. My holidays was completely ruined Upon my arrival check in, the receptionist name “kalpani” was very rude and printed out a check in paper which is not my name and told me to sign it. I told her that is not my name and I refused to sign it but she said is ok just sign and I will change in the system. I wonder what the world this hotel running the business like that. I insisted her to change and she showed her moody face and told me to wait for 1 hour. She gave me old wing but I have paid for new wing with a higher price. So changed again the room. I wonder the staff are not being paid properly and don’t have any hospitality & system at all. My room is bad and aircon was not working. I went 3 times to reception to ask for changing my room and they told me we are busy. Lost my 5 hours waiting for room to be changed. Well, they promised to come back to me but at the end they ignored my complaint. At last they just told me all the rooms are same like this with aircon problem because the management had set 26 celcious for aircon. So basically u can’t change the aircon temperature in the room. What a mess!! We are staying 2 nights with sweats and room is so stuffy. We just couldn’t wait to leave the hotel and check out. Well, along the hotel aisle, you can see a lot of stand fan where other guest has complained about the heat in the room. The solution is they will provide u a stand fan like 2 stars hotel. They are charging usd100 per night but basic aircon system, they have failed big time. We are having 2 rooms and another room door basically you can’t lock. Anyone can just open your door from the handle outside. We have went to reception to inform them more than 5 times as we have valuable items with us in the room, they couldn’t be bothered. The front office executive name “ dulaj “ didn’t deliver his promise to change our room. At very last day we check out, the door has not been fixed. Imagine anyone can coming to your room without needed to use room key card. I have attached the video as evidence

Awesome location so close to the beach but they really need to up their game on maintenance which seems to be lacking for years. It’s not healthy for paying customers to be breathing in dust and musty surroundings. Apart from that it’s a beautiful hotel with so much heritage and hope they will do justice to improve the place

Hi,  Regarding this booking of Mount Lavinia hotel for two nights. We really disappointed about your information given in your agency . This hotel room condition was a disaster . We were with a small kid and couldnt put her on the floor because floor tiles were broken . This is a safety hazard . Towels were so dirty . Room condition was not as you have advertised in your web. This is misleading your customers and we paid for a high price for that . I lost trust in your web side to book a hotel . We couldnt stay in that hotel with a child for another night and we checked out. We still having nightmares of that room conditions . That room was underground . Can you imagine with a child underground room ? We are so distressed . Could you please refund our  money as soon as possible ? Please dont advertise this hotel again . It is a disaster .

The hotel did not have any hot water. Then on the second day it ran out of water. The issue went on for the next 3 days. The service was great though. The hotel needs urgent renovation and repairs.

I had high expectations so many people told be what a fabulous hotel it is and probably what they meant was what it WAS. So much history but clearly it needs so much TLC and investment. No hot water most of the time and couldn't shower when I wanted to over the 3 days. When I first arrived I actually thought it looked closed down. A lobby empty no atmosphere no furniture and a dull desk. Poor staff what they have to work with. I actually hate to think what the back of house areas look like. Cold buffet for bfast as no burners on so opted for eggs made to order. I feel just so sorry for them but this poor hotel with so much history is sliding down the gutter unless someone takes it on. Rooms so tired and absolutely old minimal amenities in room. No bath mat, rusty bin just so sad. My rate not high so not worth complaining. One of the nights I booked late so was double but they clearly need the money. I gave feedback to staff but clearly he's used to it as he said nothing, don't even remember an apology just a glare of embarrassment. I wish I could recommend this hotel but I can't. Feel so bad because it has so much history. So hope an investor comes along because it could be amazing or more like the Galle Fort Hotel that has been well maintained.

I had a wonderful stay at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The service staff were exceptionally friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. The hotel environment was beautiful, clean, and very relaxing. I especially loved the garden area, the swimming pool, and the stunning beach views. Waking up to the ocean view from my room was an amazing experience. Even the washroom was well-maintained and offered a great view, which made the stay feel even more special. What impressed me the most was the genuine hospitality of the staff. They made me feel welcome throughout my stay and paid attention to every detail to ensure my comfort. Overall, I would rate my experience 10/10. Everything—from the location and facilities to the service and atmosphere—was simply perfect. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay in Sri Lanka.
