Stayed two nights with my two sons in a family room. This was located next to a public car-park where the workers were enjoying their end of day drinks and a smoke, pumping a plume of cigarette aromas directly into our open window. However, I’m a big supporter of being able to open the windows. The A/C worked well too. The room was tight for three when the sofa bed was made, but typical of European rooms. My single bed was concave, like a stretcher bed, exhausted by years of use from heavy European bodies bigger than mine . Both the boys beds were much better than mine - comfortable they said and they slept well. However, most confusing was my pillow. This was constructed from a single douvet, rolled and stuffed into a cotton bag . This bag was folded like macrame, into the shape of a single pillow . However, whilst I hated my pillow, my son loved it…. Unlike the Wifi. This simply did not work in our room. The bathroom was snug, shower worked well although you need a gymnastics move to get in and out of the bath tub and avoid falling into the toilet. Position-wise, it was great. Worth it. All in all, the place was reasonable value for money in Munich, but just be ready for strange pillows and avoid the concave bed.

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel and was overall quite happy with my room. The bathroom was rather compact, with limited room for a toiletry bag, only a shelf to put items on. The only amenities provided were soap wash for the shower and basin. But the heater was very handy for drying any items you need to hand wash. The rest of the room was quite spacious with a big balcony and a very comfortable bed, but the pillows were floppy and European size (square not rectangle). The wardrobe had a safe but there was no fridge or kettle. Breakfast was continental (no hot food) but a good variety with pots of coffee or hot water brought to the table. The location is close to one of the old gates of the town (hence the name) and about 10 minutes walk from Marienplatz

The hotel was tidy and clean, and had a world-class breakfast, and the front desk staff in the morning (I did not get his name, but he had blond hair and the biggest Barvarian smile you could imagine). He was funny, kind and so helpful. I would definitely stay again.

The location is great for exploring the old city of Munich. Everything is walkable and there are plenty of places to get a good meal close by. The rooms are clean and well looked after. I really dislike the bedding that just has a duvet and nothing is tucked in but that is my peeve, nothing to do with the hotel. All in all I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks to all the friendly staff for making this a good stay.
