First of all, if you are going to this place, after entering Nainital, don't trust google maps. We almost had an accident and burnt my car's clutch plate, trying to reverse from the decline after following go-ogle maps. Take the main road to the masjid, besides the Naini lake and take a right from there towards raj Bhavan and then take the raj Bhavan road upwards. The cut towards the lodge is very sharp so you will have to watch out for it. We reached there in the evening of Oct 13th, travelling as a family of four, 2 adults and 2 kids, aged 9 and 11. Initially family thought staying near Naini lake would have been better as the lodge is situated at quite a height from the lake, though you can walk down to the lake, at a sharp decline. The lodge has a set menu with not too ***y options but the food is great, no unnecessary chili or salt in the food, almost like home-cooked food and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The ***ager, Rahul, and attendants, Ganesh, and yogi are truly gems and will do everything possible to make your stay comfortable. And if you get a chance, do go for a morning hike to the tiffin top with thapaji, the guard, as the tiffin top by hiking is just 45 mins away, though not advisable for kids. We trekked down to the lake the next morning and took a boat ride from one end of the lake to the other end (cost INR 420. Then the ropeway ride (INR 200 per adult and INR 100 per child) and finally hired a local cab to show us the other places around Nainital. Avoid thee co caves, as we considered it too cramped to pass through and a waste of money. If you want to buy cheap stuff, then go to the local market near the masjid and not mall road as mall road has all branded stuff, but you will get good deals in the local market. The resort has an old-world charm to it with ample parking space. There is a bonfire available by paying INR 1, 000 but Rahul was kind enough to arrange one for all guests on the house on our second night there. I will definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a comfortable stay away from the hustle-bustle of the main market and old-world charm, do go to bhikampur lodge. And if you are down in the market side and want to come back to the lodge, take a local taxi (INR 200-250) and it will drop you to the hotel. And oh yes, do take a morning walk to the raj Bhawan from the lodge, approx 20-30 mins walking distance though the raj Bhawan is open for tourists from 11 am - 2 pm only. We went to the raj bhawan around 9 am and got to know this there from the guard. Some suggestions to the ***agement: 1) please check the rooms before giving it out to guests, as we found the toilet seat was unhinged which was later rectified on raising a complaint. 2) the switch to the tv set box was broken and was always on and wasn't fixed even after pointing it out. 3) the restaurant should have more bottles of water as we found there were only two bottles for the entire restaurant. 4) provide a hand towel also in the bathroom. Pros: location, food, ambience, hospitality, courteousness, staff (rahul, ganesh, yogi)
would love to come back to this place. Thank you so much bhikampur lodge for making our stay so comfortable and memorable.
