I am a US citizen. I am Married to a Kenyan woman. There are many diplomats who stay here so we thought it was safe. This hotel and apar**ent is supposed to have security. there are people at the gate, but they let anyone in without regard to their intentions. Twice now we have had random people barge in our house while I was hanging clothes and my wife was in the apar**ent asleep!!. one of them was violent. The security leads the strangers to giving the right answer when questioned. they say things like "are you looking for the kenyan woman with the american man? thats not information security should willingly give out. in fact they need to have the "guests" call us in front of the guards so we can verify that they are allowed in. Be careful staying here. Someone will end up seriously hurt.

Having stayed at the Kivi many times over the years, mostly while visiting NBO for work, I do feel some of the poor reviews are wide of the mark. One guy complains of 'an old room' - the whole hotel is old!! No its not the smartest. Things often don't work too well, e.g. the lift is sometimes out of service & the bathrooms need a makeover. But the staff are friendly & helpful; it is remarkably quiet for NBO since its surrounded by gardens and away from heavy traffic (if you want the best sleep, ask for a room on a higher floor); it is good value; you can be in the centre of town in no time (traffic jams permitting);; and other places of interest are not far away either. You get what you pay for, folks!

I was there on the occasion of an international exhibition, for some days. Intercontinental was fully booked, so I stayed at Milimani, waiting for a room available at Intercontinental. Low quality and poor service!
