Shima Tamura

A very nice hot spring hotel, the outdoor hot spring is amazing. Very relaxing. The overall experience was great. It's also close to Jishenkan. A traditional hot spring hotel with a great atmosphere. There are very few Chinese people.

There was so much soap scum left in the bathroom. There was mold on the curtains. By the time I went to that room, the room I had booked hadn't been cleaned, and the person in front of me had left a cake in the fridge. When I went to the bathroom, my hair had fallen out. I was there, so I called the front desk and was told that the room next door was vacant, but it hadn't been cleaned yet and was dirty. There was no hotel, so I had no choice but to stay in this room.

It was a ryokan with a nice atmosphere with a thatched roof. Since there are many kinds of hot springs, we arrived early and started touring hot springs. I stayed in a room with a bath, but I need to fill the hot water by myself. The open-air bath called Phantom Ryugu was closed during the winter, so next time I visit it will be a time other than winter. The hot spring was wonderful with an open-air bath where you can see the waterfall. The steamed vegetables and fish for dinner and the porridge cooked in the hot spring for breakfast are really delicious and highly recommended.

It was my first visit. The hotel has a historic feel. It's a shame that the roof was under repair. It was a Sunday, but there were quite a few customers when I checked in. You can tell it's a popular hotel. The staff member who first greeted me at the entrance was a little slow to respond, but he was never bureaucratic or cold. The room was a maisonette type, spacious, and well-cleaned. This is just my personal preference, but I was happy that the water heater in the room was a Russell Hobbs. I couldn't use one of the hot springs, but the water quality in the large bath and the open-air bath was gentle on the skin and excellent. The bathtub, which was divided into three water temperatures, was also good. However, the shower temperature in the washing area suddenly fluctuates. Even though the water was at the right temperature, it suddenly turned cold. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The portions were just right, and the staff member's attitude was pleasant. The foreign staff member who was in training was also polite and friendly. My husband said that the hot springs and the food were wonderful and that he would like to come again. I was given a numbered ticket for check-in and told to wait for 35 minutes until I was called, but I wasn't called. I was shocked when the reception was empty and asked, "What did you do?" When I entered the room, there was a note that said the shower in the room could not be used at night... Shouldn't this have been written when making the reservation? If I had known, I would not have stayed at a hotel with a bath. And when the cake I had ordered in advance came out, they didn't even put the candles in, so I had to light them myself. The letters on the plate were wrong and the plastic was still wrapped around the cake, so I got very angry at the food attendant, but in the end they just said they would check the plate and there was no apology. The worst thing about this inn is that they didn't apologize. I think anyone would get angry.

The bath is wonderful. The food is not amazing, but it is well made and delicious. Unfortunately, it is aging noticeably. The approach to the hot spring, which is their selling point, leaks, and when you open the entrance to the wonderful open-air bath called Mori no Kodama, you are greeted by a dilapidated wooden fence that is unacceptable. What do you think? This is just a suggestion, but there are many people in the world who enjoy DIY as a hobby and can do things that put professionals to shame. Isn't there a way to provide accommodation for such people, or to provide the hot spring for free, and to recruit volunteers? I happened to stay on a rainy day, so perhaps the rough spots were more noticeable, but it is a shame that the facilities are a negative point when the foreign trainees and Nakai-san are working hard. It may be difficult to run a large-scale inn in these times, but it is a shame to provide such resources in such a dilapidated environment. I think it is a wonderful hot spring, so I hope they will continue to use their wisdom and do their best.

My son, who lives overseas, is returning to Japan for a short stay, so we stayed at Tamura because he wanted to stay at an inn with a Japanese atmosphere. The open-air bath was charming amid the snowy winter scenery, and my family was delighted, saying that it truly reaffirmed the greatness of Japan, and I was also proud of my choice! When my son's favorite sukiyaki was served for dinner, I was filled with happiness. Next time, I will bring a dear friend and make a reservation! The only drawback is that it is a bit of a walk from the room to the large bath, so I would like to take my parents, but I hesitate. Also, you have to change clothes every time you move from one large bath to another, and the corridors in the middle of winter can be a high hurdle for the elderly. Still, we will definitely return!
