Shima Yamaguchikan
9.1 (40 reviews)

Shima Yamaguchikan ★★★

📍 Shima, 甲3876-1, Nakanojo

"This was my first experience with a semi-open-air onsen in Japan, and it had a wonderful nostalgic charm. The environment was peaceful and comfortable, with the inn surrounded by a forest. I was fine with a few small insects passing by. The Kaiseki dinner had a great variety of ingredients. They also had staff who spoke English, which was a big plus! It's definitely best if you're driving. I would go again!"

Sekizenkan

Sekizenkan ★★★★

📍 4236 Shima, Nakanojo

"The nighttime illumination was beautiful, and I enjoyed taking pictures! The building felt clean and didn't show its age, and I didn't notice any noise leakage. The food is Japanese cuisine. Since it's a set course in the evening, I recommend going with an empty stomach!"

Kayamoto – A Timeless Retreat in Shima Onsen ★★★★

📍 4344-2 Shima, Nakanojo

"The room was clean, tatami was comfortable and service was great! The only down side is the location, it is not convenient if you came by public transport, it’s better if you drive! The cost of dinner is quite pricey 12k yen per person, considering the cost of the room, dinner should already be included."

Shima Onsen Tsuruya
8.8 (26 reviews)

Shima Onsen Tsuruya ★★★★

📍 4372-1 Shima, Nakanojo

"It was quiet, and the room and food were great. The private bath was very nice. The open-air bath in the room was a little warm. When I checked in, I asked that I didn't need my room cleaned because I was staying multiple nights, but I did want bath towels, yukata robes, and toothbrush sets every day, but unfortunately I had to call and request them, which was disappointing. I felt the service was a bit lacking."

Shima Grand Hotel
7.7 (23 reviews)

Shima Grand Hotel ★★★★

📍 4228 Shima, Agatsuma District, Nakanojo

"I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. When I arrived, the ceramic bathtub was filled with water, so I contacted the front desk and had it adjusted. I didn't think much of it, as mechanical malfunctions are inevitable, but the fact that the incident in the room was communicated to other staff members was wonderful. Since the plan originally included a Tamura passport, I went to Tamura's Iwane no Yu until the hot water filled up. I've been to this Onsen about six times using Jan○n, and while the building itself may be old, the high level of customer service more than made up for it. Building and repairing facilities can be done with money, but the quality of customer service can vary greatly depending on the guidance of the person in charge. I thought it was a long-established hotel, as expected. The food, both dinner and breakfast, was also good, and I would recommend this Onsen to everyone."

Spa Guest House Lulud
8.0 (1 reviews)

Spa Guest House Lulud ★★

📍 4138-1 Shima, Nakanojo

"Booked the Japanese style room with toilet. Shower room has to be shared on the 2nd floor. Room has no amenities at all. Basic hair dryer and hot flask are in the communal area. We had to set up the bed ourselves. Room was dusty and was freezing cold even tho there was heater from the air con on winter’s night. There’s instructions to learn how to kill the stink bugs. The hotel facilities are good but the overall experience wasn’t good."

Hinatamikan
9.8 (17 reviews)

Hinatamikan ★★★

📍 4367-8 Shima, Agatsuma District, Gunma, Nakanojo

"Shima Onsen Hinatamikan. Room edition. A small inn with 10 rooms. Researching where to stay at Shima Onsen for the first time in over 20 years. There are many famous places, but I decided to stay here because I thought the atmosphere would be to my liking. The proprietress is the interior coordinator, so the interior is stylish. All the furnishings are clean. The ingredients of the hot spring are Shima Onsen. The power of hot springs that have been boiling for a long time is unbelievable. It's no wonder that it's the most popular hot spring in Shima Onsen right now, and the reviews on various sites are pretty high."

"I was very satisfied with the customer service, hot springs, and food. All of the hot springs are reserved for private use, and there are 3 types of hot springs, and we were supposed to bathe in them when we had free time, but we were able to bathe in all 3 types. Your skin will be smooth after entering. The food is beautiful and delicious, and if there's something you can't eat, please let us know in advance and we'll change it to something else. The amount of food was perfect and I was able to eat to my full stomach. I definitely want to go again. It has become an inn that I would like to introduce to my family and friends."

"The room I was able to get at the last minute was the one closest to the front desk. I was like, "Wait, it's not wrong to stay alone in such a great place, right?" (Because there was a next room...). The hot springs were free-flowing from the source, and some were unavailable, but the temperature varied depending on the bath, and you could enjoy the scenery. The soft water was a little hot, but it felt good to seep into your body. I think dinner was a regular kaiseki course, but it was very filling. The taste was not too strong or too weak, and I couldn't help but eat it. But by the end, I was so satisfied that I wondered if I had eaten too much. People with small appetites may not be able to finish it. Breakfast was also very good, and personally the hot spring rice porridge was a big hit. I didn't even need the regular white rice. Maybe eating hot spring water works well for my stomach, because I didn't feel heavy. As you can see in the photo, the basic breakfast is Japanese, but they also offer milk, coffee, yogurt, and desserts. Price-wise, I was more than satisfied with the price for a single person (though this is not the inn's fault at all. The way the external website writes, my lack of awareness, and my failure to check with the inn beforehand. In the end, I paid for two people's accommodation, but they also prepared all the meals for two people, which was rude of me). However, the landlady and all the other staff were very polite and I enjoyed the hot springs, the food, and the hospitality. It's in a slightly inconvenient area from where I live, but I would recommend it to others and would like to stay again if I have the opportunity; it's such a good impression of the inn."
