We stayed two nights towards the end of June at the Hawthorn House. It was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel. I did not do the reservation as it was a gift from a friend. Do your research before getting a room here!! They were doing construction/finalizing the remodeling for the hotel which started right outside of our room at 7:45 am. The room had a funky smell, probably from the filthy carpet. To be fair, I have to say that our bathroom was kind of clean and the bed was comfy. We were lucky to have a window AC unit. Also, the room has a french door which opens to the side porch of the house, the door did not have a blind and when I complained they put more privacy paper in the last row of the glass. Still at night everyone could see you as the privacy paper is not that private at night! Our room was at the street level and the main door for the building was not working properly so everyone was slamming it when getting into the building, which was not fun when this happened late at night. The main door is right by the room in which we were staying. The cherry on the cake was, the last day, when the maid got in our room before the check out time. It might be a nice place in a future date, but currently is not ready for guests.

It is difficult to say with certainty if we will be back to stay there. 1) communication was terrible. prior to my stay I left multiple messages and sent multiple texts (usung the info from the website and confirmation email) with a few questions and never received a response. 2) the confirmation email stated i would receive an email 2 days prior to my arrival- I never received anything. 3) when we arrived at 3:30 p.m. our room was not ready; no key was available and, again, the contact info was not correct. 4) Luckily one of the maids cleaning our room said I needed to check in at another hotel. She graciously walked me around the corner to the Faraway House where we checked in. I was then told the hotel changed ownership (?) which was news to me. It also explains a lot. Whoever is responsible for this transition is not good at that job. Communication to your guests is lacking. 5) During our stay the common area remained uncleaned and a bathroom on the floor had a dirty towel on the floor for everyone to see. When leaving, there were random belongings (wallet, shoes) in the lobby. 6) Friends staying here at the same time had same experience with the communication.
