Very disappointing stay.
There was no hot water in the shower, the heating system blew cold air on my bed until I set the thermostat to 78 degrees and the bedside light switches didn’t work, making setting the entry door panel to “off” for the whole room the only way to turn off the bedside lights. At check-out, no one asked how my stay was, and when I informed the staff of my concerns, I was told a manager would be in touch. Never happened.
This is NOT how a luxury hotel in NY is supposed to act. As attractive as this property may have been in its day, it’s hardly on par with the ratings of its supposed peers in Manhattan. The resort fee is a joke - they don’t even pretend there’s a benefit, just an extra fee for nothing, to disguise the actual room rate.

We were visiting New York to celebrate my daughter’s graduation event. I looked at 20+ hotels they were trendy, in decent location and reasonably priced. I came across Refinery and was super impressed by their spacious rooms with tall ceilings, awesome rooftop bar/restaurant to host my daughter’s event, amazing service provided by Lauren in reservations and Morgan at front-desk, and overall hip trendy ambience being part of the small luxury hotel collection. They gave us a room with the Empire State Building view on a high floor and were very thoughtful and had decorated the room with Congratulations banner and few nice complimentary gifts. They also have happy hour with wine which is pretty decent. Overall excellent trendy hotel, great location, staff/service, rooms, rooftop, and great location. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

The hotel smells great when you walk in and lots of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very large and spacious-2 queen beds. Clean and serviced daily. View of Empire State Building. Great location-quiet street between 5th and 6th ave. They kept our luggage safely when we arrived due to our early arrival.

Bad service, staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing, lack of communication between the hotel & upcoming guests staying there. Food service extremely slow & absent. Only good part was the room was large for a NYC hotel. I could keep going but I’ve spent enough time on this hotel.

The hotel was eclectic and great, but the staff was spectacular! Every member of the team was welcoming, personable, helpful and overwhelmingly accommodating. Our rooftop even was a success and the hotel stay was wonderful. I will definitely be back!

I've been a frequent guest at the Refinery Hotel since 2017, and it's easily my favorite place to stay in NYC. Traveling to the city 3-5 times a year, I’ve come to appreciate everything about this hotel—from its unique ambiance and delightful signature scent (yes, you can buy the candles to take home!) to the top-notch service and stylish rooms. The location is fantastic, just a block from Bryant Park and the subway, making it easy to get anywhere in the city. It's also within walking distance to Times Square, Broadway shows, and Rockefeller Plaza. The Refinery never disappoints. I've recommended it to countless friends, family members, and colleagues, and they've all had outstanding experiences. For any NYC trip, whether for pleasure or business, the Refinery is my go-to. Already excited for my next stay later this month!
