DoubleTree by Hilton Newbury North

We have been to this hotel before, but this time we saw a sign saying that swimming will incur £5 pp charge. I was gutted that I was not advised, as the receptionist said this new policy took place 2 weeks ago. BUT, when we went to the pool, the clerk told us that if you booked from a different provider (trip.com etc) you have a complimentary pass to the pool. If only we knew the first day. But really happy overall.

Very nice hotel, nice dinner

There was an issue with the manager (manager name: Lubo) when I had a problem with my meal allowance. The manager says that I did not pay for it, - I stay in hotels 2-3 times a week so trust me here, I have experience. He made me feel embarrassed in front of the whole restaurant... end of the day, I had to have a meal in my room, because it was so bad.... more story... He stated that I did not have a meal allowance. However, that was confirmed by the receptionist when I checked in at the hotel. Then I went to my room, and grabbed my laptop to show him an email, which showed that I have a meal allowance. And he couldn't handle it. He couldn't handle the failure, and it was an absolute disaster. It made me feel really, really bad. Very, very awkward situation. I think the first time I came across something like that. PS room smells unpleasant on entry

Lovely staff, comfortable bed, clean and welcoming. This was my second stay at the hotel - first time was in 2018. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - all very friendly, polite and welcoming. Pleasant bar area, comfortable bed and excellent shower. I am staying again in December and am looking forward to it.

The Hilton Doubletree is always my hotel of choice when in this area. The staff are second to none, always polite and helpful - from checking in, to the restaurant, to the bar. The food is hot and tasty. Breakfast is a special treat; always plenty of tasty choices. Love the pool, sauna and jacuzzi, too. Always a pleasant stay. Thank you, Newbury North, for always providing an oasis of calm in my busy life. X

Access to the M4 good. Easy drive into Newbury. The staff need a refresher course on how to welcome and show pleasant hospitality to bus tour guests. The bedroom was basic, bathroom very cold, towels old. The restaurant head waiter has no front of house qualities about him at all. We were shown to our table, never offered a drink from the bar or offered a wine list. He fell over himself catering to other guests but made the coach party feel like second class citizens! There was a very limited choice of food offered in a secluded buffet style area. The plates were cold, despite a sign warning Caution Hot Plates! However they were hot for the breakfast buffet service which was open for all guests. One meat, one pasta and a steamed veg option. The soup was nice. The dessert was a chocolate cake divided into small portions served with no cream. Even the table was laid with a spoon, not even a dessert fork to eat it with. When I asked if there was a choice of maybe ice cream the chef said it wasn’t available to the coach party only other paying guests!!!!! However the cake was dry and needed something so I ordered a portion of ice cream and paid £7.50 cash for three scoops of mediocre vanilla ice cream! Call this four star service? I DON’T THINK SO. Other staff were pleasant and helpful but I would not rush back or recommend this hotel!

Rooms are basic but adequate, staff are very friendly but lack experience. Restaurant prices are high and food not great. Ordered (about 13:00) a gammon and cheese sandwich with side salad and crisps. What was served was plain white bread with sliced meat and cheese from the buffet breakfast, the few leaves of salad looked 2nd hand. I ordered 2 soft boiled eggs for breakfast what I got was two hard boiled eggs no eggcups were available and no teaspoons. The pool was out of order but no notices online or we would have booked elsewhere as the pool is a bit issue. The gym was great and well equipped. I would stay again but the restaurant needs to improve. And breakfast needs more choice.

Absolutely awful hotel. Stayed here a few times and this is the second time I've had problems. Stayed for 3 nights. Carpet was filthy, curtains had cigarette burns in, hole in the ceiling outside our room, black marks on bedding, shower was mouldy, no bottled water. Asked for my room to be cleaned at 1.30pm, went out for the afternoon and come back at 6.30pm room was still not cleaned. We needed toilet rolls, fresh bedding, clean towels. NOT HAPPY AT ALL. And also now you have to pay to swim in the pool when your a paying guest. ABSOLUTE JOKE! STAY ELSE WHERE!!

Hotel excellent and so was staff. Shame I was hit with a 100GBP parking fine after my stay. Hotel conveniently located and clean and welcoming. Staff were wonderful en food excellent. Again, shame the ParkingEye people fined me for 'illegal parking'...
