Overall pretty good. I wasn't expecting much but the room is nice and spacious, especially the bathroom. The secret garden is a pretty lovely place to hang out, and the staff was really friendly.

One of the worst shower experiences of my life. A mere dribble that was alternately scalding hot and ice cold, with occasional bursts of a happy medium. The temperature extremes seemed ideally timed to coincide with moments of greatest rinsing need, such as eyes being full of soap or shampoo. The worst was not knowing whether the temperature would ever return to something that was bearable for human experience.

We had a one night stay in the Bridal Suite after a day at the races. The receptionist was very helpful and welcoming. The room was big with a sofa, super kingsize 4 poster bed and large bathroom. All very nice, but nothing special. There was no USB charging point in the room - costs so little to get this installed and the phone in the room was very dated. Standard tea and coffee making facilities - nothing special again. Breakfast was included in the room rate, good job too as it was very basic, self service breakfast with no special offering, except you could sit wherever you liked. The hotel is in an excellent location for the town centre, with free parking. I would recommend it to anyone for a one night stay - but it won't take your breath away.

Staff friendly, hotel clean and comfortable. Good quiet nights sleep compared to other hotels in Newbury town centre. Good value.
