The hotel kindly rebooked us in after we caught Covid and had to cancel our original date in Nov on the day with no extra charge although this meant we didn't get the birthday extras planned. Check in was smooth and the lady was both courteous and efficient (and early at 12pm). Room 205 was a bit dated but good Samsung smart TV (bring a cable to connect a device if you like). Fixed shower head, mini soap, shampoo and shower gel provided. Extra set of towels in the cupboard and vanity in hidden in desk along with hairdryer. Radiator wasn't working but room had oil filled one to plug in (also noticed a tower fan but we didn't use it). Walk through to the spa on first floor was labyrinthine and we saw lots of peeling wallpaper etc. My partner was reminded of the Cecil...! We weren't able to call through to the spa reception team so weren't exactly sure what time we had booked our treatment but we went early to use the gym and pool anyway and asked at reception there. I didn't really like the guy who was a bit brusque but not exactly rude. Not sure why he didn't answer the phone as he was sitting there with nothing to do. Changing rooms were big, need £1 to operate but this is refunded once you open the lock (and lady in reception already told us this). Gym was well equipped with lots of machines and a free weights area. There is a water machine by the door and 2 spray bottles and paper towel for wiping equipment down which everyone was doing but no real monitoring of this. Bring your own flip flops as the floor is slippery and wet. I saw many people walking in the room slippers and gowns but they still seemed to slip. Steam room door has a gap on the bottom so the steam stays up, no good if you're sitting. The 2 mins I got in the jacuzzi and sauna were fine but was joined by others so stepped out to keep social distance and they stayed in the duration before my treatment so that was a bit annoying! Back massage by Nessa (sorry if I got the name wrong) was good but could have been a bit stronger and neck part was at awkward angle so did nothing for me. We had a drink in the bar and was impressed with the service (I assume by Daminda from the other reviews on here) and she was our head waiter for dinner too where she continued to display exemplary service. Food was excellent, came out quickly and looked and tasted delightful. We had the pate, terrine, catch of the day, watermark burger, brownie and sticky toffee pudding and would recommend them all. Unfortunately, I needed the loo so went to the toilets by the bar and 2 stalls had massive logs in them which grossed me out. Check out by same member of staff as check in, she was excellent - I wish I noted names. Overall I would recommend coming here but I would bring my own flip flops for the pool and get everything confirmed in writing such as treatment times as you won't be able to call through nearer the time.
