Good location for Highclere Castle

We stayed there for four nights and really had a great time. Staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was nice and the bed comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for evening meal a couple of times and the food was amazing. Breakfast was really good and I particularly liked the porridge. We will definitely be back.

Pleased to make this my first review on this platform. Excellent from start to finish. Booked the Crab & Boar as part of the Easter Butcombe promotion. I was kindly called before my visit to arrange the booking of a table, which we promptly did. When we arrived we were taken to our lovely room, with our dog being handed some biscuits. We settled into one of the spacious snug areas, and were served excellently by three different members of staff. We were very fortunate that they were serving lamb as a special, as it was outstanding. Trout gravalax, chicken kiev and the koeksisters were equally excellent. Room itself was very well equipped, even a lower level shower hose to quickly wash down the dog following a muddy walk near Donnington. Netflix on the TV, bed very comfortable and the room was very clean. Breakfast the following morning was also very good. It's really clear the chef/team take a lot of care over the food - everything on the full english plate was considered (deep fried hash brown, beans were clearly prepared from scratch rather than tinned). One of the team even cut up a sausage on a small dish for our dog. But the best part of the stay, was the service. Having worked in hospitality for the last 10 years you really do appreciate how much work the team are doing behind the scenes. On a busy easter Sunday, the staff were attentive, caring and treated our dog like a princess with lots of fuss, attention and kind words. Dave was principally managing our stay, and was absolutely excellent. I'm pleased that my first review is to share my thoughts on the Crab and Boar, as I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. As the title of the review says, I can't put a single fault to the place, or the staff. Fantastic, and thanks again.

What a lovely little find!! After recently recovering from injury I needed somewhere to break up my drive from London to Devon. Wish I was staying here longer Staff cannot do enough for you, I had one of the best steaks I've had for my tea!! Room is exceptional, loads of little touches to make it feel special. I'll definitely be back here for a break with my husband!! After a week of staying in other hotels in London, this place beats them hands down!!! Thank you !!

Stayed just 1 night and overall a very enjoyable country pub experience. Special mention to Dave and the team, very friendly and professional. Food very good (we had cod and a steak) and reasonably priced although I did think the wine was a little pricey at £35 / bottle. Also it would have been nice to have had a salad or chicken option for those on diets. Our room was roadside so a tad noisy but good value for the price which included an excellent breakfast. Some areas of building looked a bit tired and need some decorating to freshen things up. Our bed was super comfy and the rooms had tea/coffee facilities as well as complimentary still and sparking water which was nice (and valentine chocolates to mark the occasion!) If you are looking for peace and relaxation at a sensible price then try The Crab and Boar!

We had a fantastic company meal at The Crab and Boar yesterday evening. There were over 30 of us and we were accommodated at short notice and with a really positive customer service approach. I can't praise Dave, Ash and Cloe enough in how they looked after us, maintaining contact without being overbearing and smiling throughout. The food was superb, we had visitors from different countries who were all impressed and we'll be back again in the future. Thanks, Jon

A lovely overnight stay with dinner to celebrate my birthday. The food was great and the staff were all very welcoming and friendly. This is a lovely pub in a peaceful setting, warm and cosy while the rain lashed down outside. The room was clean and cosy too. I would highly recommend the Crab and Boar for a meal out or a stop over for a special occasion

We had a lovely stay. The team were super friendly. Our bed was a zip and link that wasn’t overly comfortable, and it was a Shane having no dinner available on the Sunday night? Otherwise, great great stay,

Stopped over midway on a trip to meet some friends for Sunday lunch and staying the night Dave and his team were very welcoming we also had two dogs which wasn’t a problem and very welcome there is excess to walks and fields from the carpark We also were able to change our electric car free of charge so ticket all the box’s for our stay. Thanks
