We stay most years in the Burrendale and have always enjoyed our stays. This year we did enjoy our visit as we review it but it was not without its frustrations. We took the mountain view room which has not been refurbished for some years - we find the curtains, bedding etc perfectly adequate - yes you do see the mattress sides as one viewer pointed out, but at least you know thereafter that you are on a clean one! Our gripe with the room was about the carpet - it was extremely dirty, and my lovely washed slippers were soon dark grey on the soles, so we had to be careful not to step on the carpet with bare feet or socks. The bathroom was grand apart from a nasty rust stain on the plug hole, but we had a learning curve here - room 131 does not run a hot bath for at least five minutes, closer to ten after you turn on the hot tap. The shower is a bit unpredictable too - I found the four o'clock setting best. The supplies in the bathroom and the tea tray are more than adequate - nice option of a hot chocolate before bed if tea and coffee leave you sleepless. Our TV remote had no volume control, but a replacement was quickly delivered to us. We discovered as last year that two parties of schoolgirls are resident this week for a night each. They were well behaved as teenager go - though they do run a lot on the corridors between nine and ten thirty at night so if you need an early start or have a baby with you it would be best to ensure your room is at a distance week commencing 10 June! They also depleted all the juices at breakfast, and like most kids had an obsession with the pancake maker and thus hogged the toaster area so advice here is to breakfast early when they are in town. However they were very well behaved as they queued and sat down to breakfast. We were a bit disappointed that the big dining area was not used in the evenings, as the bar was dark and we were a couple of feet away from the people beside us the first night and there was no privacy for conversations. Next night we were placed at the entry to the dining area, lovely bright views, but unfortunately forgotten when it came to having our order delivered, probably because we were unseen at this spot. A very efficient female staff member picked up on this reason for delay before we did and speedily made a generous compensatory arrangement for our wait. However, the sugar pit chop I had ordered had none of that unique sugar pit flavour - was actually 50% fat - and there was no colcannon in the mash - I only realised this later. Husband thoroughly enjoyed turkey and ham, having had braised steak the previous night whilst I had chicken stack. The desserts are very adequate but the sticky toffee pudding was more like cake with a few date pieces. We only took starter one night, and a change my husband requested to his was seen to with no trouble, whilst I had enough hot smoked salmon for a main course! The reception staff in particular are very friendly, t
