It’s not The Ritz but it was warm, the bed was comfortable, the room was pretty big and it was clean / brilliant value for what I paid!

After reading the reviews I was not expecting much, we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived in the bar & was shown where to go by the staff. We stayed on the top floor, room was spacious, clean & had a decent en suite. All in all excellent value for location & price paid

This establishment was absolutely filthy. I have stayed in hotels and student accommodation all over the world, but this was one of the worst. It was filthy, there’s no other word for it. I had to clean the room from top to bottom, it didn’t look as if it had been cleaned for months. The mattress was stained and covered in food debris, dirt and human hair. The floor was dirty, the bathroom was horrible as well. It was bordering on being unfit for human habitation. I would have left if I thought I could find somewhere else at short notice, but it was the weekend of the Great North Run and I knew there would be no places anywhere. I paid £250 for this room because the owner had massively increased the prices to take advantage of the people running for charity. We had also been told the room had a no refund policy. The room was very basic, no air con, boiling hot, we had to jam the small window open as the latch was broken, which didn’t help with shutting the noise out. Thin curtains blocked no light at all. We got little to no sleep. We were told there were kitchen facilities, but I didn’t want to go near them. My pets sleep in cleaner conditions. A thoroughly miserable experience from start to finish.

A v. strange experience - the rooms are above a bar the was v. busy (understandably) on a Saturday and on a Newcastle playing at home day (late kick off). The contact I had was good - a key is left in a code-press small locker behind the bar area, but it is not very easy to open (and impossible to close). Rooms are basic but clean and well sound proofed but when I left in the morning Sunday - 07.50 (not the earliest) I could not get out! All the inner (pub doors are locked and the garage door had been left open - no instruction that this was the way to exit on leaving. Also no "free breakfast" - well, it was free but not so much as an air butty (not that I could get in to the main bar where presumably it is served. Maybe a better place for people staying for a night out, sleeping late and possibly the breakfast is served from 08.00 or 09.00 (or even later) onwards, but nothing on the communication or website to mention the details. It was said I had been contacted by email (with the requisite info) but I received no email whatsoever, though was texted and given directions verbally (as I was on foot from near to town.

Couldn't stay the second night due to the really bad smell in the room, was told we would have a refund for the second night which did not materialise. Could not leave the window open to get rid of the smell as it was directly onto a fire escape and the catch was broken.

The communication prior to arrival was great we were told how to enter the property and where to find our key and the code needed to retrieve the key from the box also given a code to use to enter the property after hours as the bar entrance downstairs would be shut. The room was basic which was fine as it was cheap £70 however I did notice after making the booking and buying some gig tickets for a concert happening nearby that the same room would have been £250 if I had booked it after obtaining the gig tickets this is just pure profiteering 🤷🏻‍♀️ The bedding and towels were clean but the other furniture was abit tired looking this didn't bother us too much as it was just a base for one night. The windows on our room had no handles so were unlockable and held shut with some insulation tape. This could have been overlooked as we were slightly above ground level however we were woken at 1.30am by some disgruntled guests who were banging on the front door to be in and shouting for the front door to be open - they obviously didn't get the memo about using the back entrance after hours! They were hammering the door so hard that our room was quite literally shaking. The same thing happened again a little later. All was quiet again until the shop over the road opened at 7am I appreciate they have deliveries etc but the noise was worse all the more by the fact that we couldn't shut the windows! We literally got up and made a swift exit. Our first night away without our kids in over 4 years going home for a rest! You definitely get what you pay for so will avoid cheap and cheerful in future if this isn't a problem for you then you it would be fine. Within easy walking distance to the city centre but close to a metro station also for easy access.

Make sure you take the key code if you go out ! The pub closed before midnight ( we thought that due to it being a student area that it would be open when we returned !) We couldn’t get in and faced the prospect of spending the night in the car! We were very relieved when another guest arrived and we could get in ! Comfy bed ; broken side lights , fan and shower fixing above the bath .

We arrived at the hotel on Monday at 5pm, couldn’t find the free parking. So my partner had to go into the hotel and ask. The free parking was terrible there were 4 spaces. Went to check in and paid £90 for 2 nights, was giving the key for room 11. When it was booked we were told we would have a street view and the room was far from what we were expecting. My first impression was that I was in a hostel room. All the furniture was mixed matched and must of been bought from a charity shop. The room was very dusty and this made me feel very dirty. I bought paper plates and cups and was very skeptical about using there cutlery and dishes. We did find a cleaning cupboard and my partner cleaned the room. Our view was the metal emergency stairwell instead of a street view. On our second day, I used the bath to have a soak. Omg i quickly got wash and got out as the taps had black mould and dirt. I would not recommend this hotel. False advertising. We spoke to Anthony at the jam jar who was fabulous, he said he would get the manager to ring us but he never did. Anthony gave us a complimentary drink which was lovely. The only nice thing of the whole experience is they gave us a bottle of wine as we got married. Will never stay here again !!!!
